On the go at the moment:

CF-100 X-wing

Mitsubishi Zero, circular wing (Zero, get it?  ;D)

Still on the Supermarine Swift, naval version

Another Tradewind/Bowrider, RCAF, but had a paint disaster that needs fixing.

A few other things I can't quite remember.

One that's finished and simply awaiting photographs is a cracked Zero egg plane, with a hatchling, a 1/144 job with yellow paint, pinkish brown legs and prop, and a pair of little black eyes. Still have to finish the back story, something about it being test flown by USN test pilot Al Bumen.  ;D

Might get this idea going again:

But I'm thinking of making it a lot simpler; a MkIII with Derwent Vs, and just remove the inner wing sections. Something in the dim misty back of my mind (or reasonable facsimile) tells me that aerodynamically it would perform much better, but I would like an engineer's opinion on that. The landing gear may be replaced with a trolley for take-off and a skid for landing.

Thoughts?

You'd probably improve the drag even more by fairing the engine cowlings into the fuselage, a la CF-100, perhaps? There'd be a fair amount of form drag created by the turbulence as the air squeezes itself down those slots along the inboard sides of the engines.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Probably right. But my idea is a 'quick and dirty' conversion to grab the record, minimal airframe conversion. Might also leave the nozzles off to shorten the pipe.

Doing a quick parts mating indicates that the root design of the Airfix MkIII fuselage is almost exactly a match for the engine contours, so I'm not fearful of hacking at this one soon. Most likely an in-flight model, that way I don't have to scratch a take-off trolley or a landing skid. And a nice high-visibility scheme. Anybody know what paint matches the colour used on Hunter WB188? Still got some Guards Red from my Gnat drone project.

So do I, but that's a lot of work, both for me and the hypothetical Gloster team. So it will be nowhere near as sleek, but one of these days I might just do that one.

Here's a quick impression. Gun ports will of course be filled in, pitot may be moved, maybe not.

Not long after the hacking began, more hacking began: from my torso. Wife and I have had a really bad cold all week, haven't done much at the bench because I don't want to leave pieces of lung all over something. Soon, I hope.

Tried a hot rum and brown sugar a few nights ago, it was a waste because I just couldn't enjoy it. Thought it was my hyperactive immune system that was the reason for it being so bad, but Monica is feeling it about the same.

Port wing attached, going to let it dry solid, a day at least, before attaching the starboard.

GASSP-1* is just about done, just the decalling, not sure how much I'll bother putting on other than the number. Thanks to being sick and rushed there is one major aerodynamic glitch; a pronounced anhedral. BUT... Since this is the whiff-world it's easily worked into the back story. Just a passing reference as far as construction goes, but a major element in the flight regime. And rather than ripping glory from Chuck Yeager I've decided to keep his timeline intact, but not by much. Pics should be up soon.

*GASSP-1 may be followed by the GASSP-2, as seen in the original pic.

Sounds good Ratty ! I like the part about keeping Chuck's legacy alive.....besides, if you didn't, the other Chuck might show up and kick out your Larynx.
