Getting back to this........

I originaly wanted to place some main gun turrets in each "pie section" so to speak as you see in Pic #'s 1 & 2. But having them in that area means the guns aren't level (Due to the slantedness of the Basestar hull.) and there'd be a lot of scratchbuilding to make them on a level base. I might just abandon this idea of having them in these areas.

What I'm pondering next (Which I don't like, but may do it anyway.) is having the main gun turrets in the "trenches" as you see in Pic #'s 3 & 4. But I'm not sure I like them there as I wanted to keep the trenches as they originally were for launching fighters.

Another option is to put 5 main gun turrets at the top of the Basestar, and another 5 at the bottom of the Basestar as shown somewhat by Pic # 5 below. Though putting 5 gun turrets so close together is a bit crowded in that area.

Does anybody else have any recommendations on what I should do?
Modeling isn't just about how good the gluing or painting, etc. looks. It's also about how creative and imaginative you can be with a subject.
My modeling philosophy is: Don't build what everyone else has done. Build instead what nobody has seen or done before.

Cobra

You could Reduce the Number of Turrets to 4 and Try 4 up & 4 Down Instead, with each Mount able to cover it's own Arc of Fire. Hope this Helps. Dan

Depends on what you mean by "there'd be a lot of scratchbuilding to make them on a level base". :-\

If you have any styrene tube the same diameter or slightly smaller than the roadwheel you're using as a turret base, all you need to do is drill vertical holes the same diameter as the tube where you want the turrets, slide in the tube, glue & fix on the guns.

Alternative method, if you only have styrene tube significantly smaller in diameter, is to "bundle" them depending on the diameter. For example, if you have styrene tube suitable for a 4-tube bundle, you drill 4 holes adjacent/touching each other in a square/diamond, slide in the tubes & glue, wait for it to dry, level off the tops & fit your guns.

Greeble the tubes as desired.

(Note: You can pre-glue the bundles together in the 2nd method, if you wish, or fit them seperately & greeble the gaps.)

According to Boltar and Admiral Adama's model of a Basestar, the heaviest weapons were on the top and bottom.  Not to say the entire ship wasn't covered with every type of offensive and defensive weapons in the Cylon arsenal.  On the other hand, these were never used on screen as far as I know. In the episode this info came from ,Starbuck and Apollo were to knock out the control center so they could get the fleet past it. I always thought that the weapons on the model Adama had were really lame. Long thin floppy things.  I suggest that you use the top and bottom flats are the best place for them.  Can't remember what they were but they were supposed to be able to cripple or destroy a  Battlestar with one good hit.

I think what you're looking/referring to may be this:
http://www.tecr.com/galactica/weapons/weapons.htm
Scroll down till you get to where it says "Laser Cannons", and then also read below that where it says "Mega-Pulsar Guns".

That would be them. Thanks.

Real good!

But if you put letters on the sovjet "Basisstern" (as it was called in the german TV-version) don't forget to use kyrillic-letters.

A Battlestar isn't a Battlestar unless it's got Vipers! And I present to you..........VIPERS!   :tornado:

Well, actually, they're 1/700 scale missiles from a Spruance and Ticonderoga Navy ships that I modified and painted white to represent Vipers. I can't detail them any further as they are extremely small and my eyesight isn't that good. The clear rod to support them might be too thick, but it's all I had to work with. I also put two missiles on top of the Battlestar to represent anti-capital starship missiles being launched. The last pic is of the engines.........which sucked when I tried to paint them.  :banghead: It was very difficult to get in tight areas with a paint brush.
