So this is my take on a Spitfire trainer, or at least the start of....

It started life as the Fujimi Mk XIV, the rear Canopy is from Airfix's Canadian Chipmunk, seats were left over from
My Postal Hurricane build.
If all goes well I hope to finish it very soon.... ;D
Hopefully it will be my entry for Asiarama.

Keith
The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

Nice, what canopy did you use ? just re-read your post   :banghead: :banghead:  I didn't think of using one of those though, that works very well although in my defence I was trying to get two ejection seats in as well.  Looks like I'll have another one to do.

here's my take;

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Captain Canada

Yes indeed...nice start ! That canopy looks right at home up there !

Yes, a great find Keith   I just dug out the remains of the Chipmunk kit I have (wings have long been gone) and the canopy was what I really was looking for when I did my two.  But now I'm going to build another ----

Before you get too carried away with the new one  ;)
I do hope you're going to finish the other two?
Especially the Black/Dark blue one, I think that's

Absolutely Keith, I intend to get them done in the next month or so. Actually looking in the Chipmunk box solved some decal problems I was having for the yellow one.  Really looking forward to the end of your build --
The "Double Spit' is going to be Humbrol 181 (Sea Blue) for the top and Humbrol 85 (Coal Black) for the underside.  I'll then use Humbrol 165 (MSG) on top in a disruptive pattern, but not as you might expect (leave that as the surprise)

Some advice re the Fujimi kit.

Use some 10 though plastic card spacers in the wing root uppers to force the dihedral down a degree or two.

Go for clipped wingtips.  The full span ones are horrendously at teh trailing edge and require much sanding.

Thanks
Advice sort of taken... When I was glueing the wings on I noted that there was a gap at the wing roots, so instead
Of forcing the wing in and up (which would have given it a huge amount of dihedral I packed the fuselage/wing root fairing out with a bit of sprue which just about filled the gap, and possibly helped with the dihedral, I shall
Check later.
And this is where we are now.....

As you can see clipped wings, for as the Wooksta says the elliptical wing tips were obviously designed to fit another aircraft entirely  ;D

For those with enquiring minds I've used the 'Perfect Markings' camouflage transfers that came with this particular
Boxing, they're a bit of a fiddle to fit, and it probably would have been quicker to use a mask and paint,
However strangely enjoyable to do

I like this idea so much I'll be nicking it at some point.  Not necessarily the Griffon one though, but I could work it in.  Back story already worked out.

Oh, you'll need to fit the slipper tank - the second seat required that the aft fuel be removed.  The one thing you should have done, though, is to move the front cockpit forward.  Although the Russians didn't with their two seater.

The long bubble canopy looks odd (esp. in combination with the clipped wings), I like the idea and how this turns out. I can imagine that a Mustang in a similar fashion would also look cool?

They already have Mustangs in a similar configuration - they don't look much different as the canopy is long enough anyway.

There was a projected two seat conversion of the mk 18 Spit, but I've yet to see any drawings.  I've only read a mention of it in the Morgan/Shacklady bible.  I really should get round to finishing mine - just the vacform canopy putting me off.

Keith, you'll also need to open out the tailwheel bay - use the spare doors from the Airfix PR19 kit.

Ah! More gen from the master,
I take it you mean the tank that's in the kit that fits between the U/C legs?
And the reason that I didn't move the cockpit forward was because I didn't think of it :banghead:
And of course this is meant to be a conversion that could have been carried out by an RAF M.U.
And so would have to be relatively simple  (well that's my excuse) ;D
Out of interest when the cockpit was moved forward, was it just the seating position or was the windscreen
Moved as well?

On the real two-seaters, the whole front cockpit was moved forward 13 1/2" Keith (from the Morgan/Shacklady book), that's about 4mm in 1/72, which was the furthest forward without removing the main fuel tanks which are in between the cockpit and engine bulkhead.  On my two I've moved the front cockpit forward 30", in the yellow one the rear is move back 12" and raised 8" , my story is the forward fuel tanks were removed and relocated under the rear seat and into the wings.  I've worked out that I can get more fuel in the aircraft than what it started out with.

If you've got one of the Special Hobby late Griffon Spitfires/Seafires (or indeed a Ventura Seafire F17 or FR47) you should have the underwing slipper tanks, which will fit most other marks of Spitfire.
