Spitfire F.21....
A new project that I wasn't going to start. :banghead:
You see I have this new rule: if I start one new build I need to finish 1 D.N.F.
Oh well rules are made to be broken....
Now I thought I knew that you could make an Spitfire F.21 from
The Airfix PR XIX and  F.22, a quick check with the Wooksta's blog
Confirms it. So what I've done is swap the wing from the F.22 onto the PR.XIX, which with a little
Bit of cutting and rearranging of wing fillets etc gives me this:

As you can see the fit isn't exact, but. It's not too bad :o
And i have left myself all the options open as to what I do:
If I fill the bottom camera ports I have a FR.21 (low level PR Scheme or late war Ocean grey/Dark green MSG)
If I fair in the cannons etc I get a PR.21 (post war PRU development unit in......)
Or I fill in all the camera ports and I have a F.21 (high speed silver, polished cowl, like the 41sqn. special for the Blackpool air pageant, but different Sqn.) you see I have several of Revell's Meteor F.4 which has a very attractive set of 1 Sqn or 600 Sqn markings that could be used....
Decisions, decisions...... ;D

Keith

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

...and if you swap the wings the other way, what possibilities does that give you?  ;D

Looks very promising, makes you wonder why Airfix didn't make the wing joint the same on both kits, after all Supermarine managed it.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Nice one ! I like the idea of swapping bits of the Airfix kits around...I was doing that awhile back just to see what could go with what. And nice idea checking with our resident Spitfire Expert's blog !

The canopy from the Airfix IXc will fit and the current boxings generally have two in them (all my recent buys have anyway - check the boxes as the newer ones won't have the D-Day stripes on the decals and be moulded in the current Sky blue plastic).  All you need to do is build the underneath of the rear section with some plastic card and sand it flat.  Take off the PR19 blower (actually, you could leave it on for far east machines which had cockpit refrigeration...) and scribe in the entry hatch.

The PR21 didn't have the cannon blisters, whilst early ones were similar to the early XIXs in having the standard entry hatch and no pressurisation.

Although I did some test fitting, I never actually did the cross kit.  I had enough of my own resin wings in the spares bin.

What I want to know is why is everyone suddenly climbing on the Whiffed Spitfire bandwagon?

Hey, Wooksta! The answer to your question is simple. "Monkey see, monkey do!" Adios, Larry.

Well Lee, you're not the only one into Spitfires, RW or whiffed, I've been doing them for years (this time around for about 30 years,  first time (before move to Canada) for 15 or more)  ---
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike

More to the point is why not?  ;D

Supermarine went to a great deal of trouble to build lots of Spitfire Marks, who are we NOT to build the ones in between that they didn't get around to doing?  ;D

Plus Airfix are giving us this lovely raw material to play with too.....

Yep, Kit hit it on the head with one word - Airfix !

As for rules, I usually say the same thing every year-no new projects ti I clean ip the yada yada yada......the trick is, just be cognizant of all you DNF's and pick away at them along with what takes your fancy at that time. At least that's what I'm trying to do.....

Are well..... That's where the plan falls down a bit :banghead: I'm not entirely sure what to do
With the Mk.22 fuselage at the moment
But I'm sure I'll think of something

I don't think that's actually happening. This being the "What If" forum, most if not all Spitfires that appear here will be whiffed, no?
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

(Minor) update ;D
It's now a Spitfire PR.21  and a most handsome looking Spitfire,
I think it's just taken over from the Spitfire PR.XIX as my favorite Spitfire :o
A picture for your delectation:

Mmmm! Shiney  Xtracolour, sky, extremely glossy paint.
Just waiting for the postman to bring me some stuff from Hannants (black 6" serial numbers and Roundels various since you ask)
