Here is my latest creation. I have build it for the 50 years IPMS show last November. It was standing in the competition.
The model is a P-38 F model (Glacier Girl) from Academy, converted with some engines from a Airfix Mosquito and some resin goodies (aires cockpit and some wheels). The Turbos were puttied and a oil cooler (from a He 111)  was placed on top. The decals were mostly leftovers. The centre of the roundels were painted in the blue colour.

Cheers ,

Said it on the other thread and I'll repeat it here - gorgeous
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

The P-38 was pretty good on Allison engines but with Merlins? Watchout!

Wouldn't they have to redesign pretty much the entire boom section just to fit the Merlins on?

Very plausible premise. Beautifully built. Adios, Larry.

Looks very good.

Just one question - what are the intakes on top of the boom?

No. It would just require the removal of the turbo system. The P-40 and P-51 didn't have too much difficulty with the swap.

The only other thing is that the weight balance would need rechecking/reworking.

Only complaint, one of the props should be facing the other direction. P-38s had counter rotation to keep it from yawing.

Nice idea  and tidily executed, if had a Lightning and
Some spare Merlin's/Griffons I'd be sorely tempted
Luckily I have no such thing, and so wouldn't be tempted.....
Much :banghead:

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

The intakes on top of the booms are the oil coolers.
Sturmvogel, the engines were a almost straight fit. The downside of the conversion was that I could fit the engines after the wings and tailbooms were fitted.
