Jeeps and jeeps

I'm trying to acquire some jeeps, probably about three, in 1/72 scale. I've been tracking some on ebay ..... there are a lot, either as kits on their own with things pulled, or with Buffalos, in the Airfix combination.

There seems to be some confusion; there are some at 1/72 and some at 1/76, all with very similar artwork but, also confusingly, of different looking vintages. It seems unlikely that there would be two slightly different model mouldings ........ ???

Any experience of this, please? I'd guess they actually match Airfix AFVs - 1/76, I believe. There was a Hasegawa Jeep though, clearly stated as 1/72 so perhaps a safer bet for the right scale (to go with a Dakota in a diorama?)

Italeri? They do a range of 1:72 vehicles.
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

Ah .... ok .... thanks ..... i'll have a look there.

Doh! ..... somebody's always got there first ..... but I have plans for the Dakota ...... :o (with a bit of luck). I might be ready for the jeep when it comes out ..... and I'm going to need another Dakota too, come to think of it.

 for the heads up!

Doing a quick search on EvilBay, I see jeeps made by the following manufacturers (either singly or as part of another vehice/set)

Airfix
Academy
Hasegawa
S-Model
Hobby Master
Dragon
Dragon Can-Do
Heller
Revell
Frontline
Sgts Mess
Altaya
Science Treasury

Loads to choose from!

Ah ..... ok, thanks very much ..... I was wondering if using models from two different sources might contribute to a non-model-looking kind-of-authenticity look ..... an imperceptible variation. I need three I think. I guess jeeps have to go inside Dakotas ..... hmm, unless the Dakotas are stretched .....

A jeep is pretty much a jeep.  They all look basically alike, unless something has drastically gone wrong in the mould making process.  They're all basically the same size and unless you stand them actually side-by-side, no one would notice any major differences.

The old Airfix one (the one with the Buffalo) it's not so hot.
Science Treasury is a chinese rip-off of Hasegawa.
Probably some other moulds have been used by different brands, don't know which, sorry.
Owing to the current financial difficulties, the light at the end of the tunnel will be turned off until further notice.

Airfix are going to produce a new 1/72nd Jeep in 2014 with exactly the same thought in mind:

No saying when in 2014 of course, but if you can wait.....

The Jeep, trailer and pack howitzer is due in May and the Dak & Jeep is due in Aug, ready for D-Day and Market Garden respectively :-)

I presume I wasn't the only who noticed that the Jeep originally said "...and 6 pdr gun" and then suddenly changed...... ;D

Just my 2ยข,but I have recently gotten the Heller jeep in 1/72 scale. I can highly recommend it to you. I can usually find one boxing or the other on sale at Squadron.com . I prefer not to get the one with the paint but it's a great kit and has an excellent mg on a pole mount . About the only thing you need to add is the wire cutter to the front bumper.

Academy include them in quite a few of their 72nd scale WWII fighter kits. Also saw an Academy 3-pack with Willys, Kettengrad and that other German one  :drink:

Thanks very much for advice ...... I'm thinking of, maybe, an SAS diorama ..... somewhere fairly unlikely.

Is anywhere likely to be unlikely for the SAS ?
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.
