Single Seat Lockheed P-24

The design despite being very large and having a rear-gunner was actually quite impressive in terms of speed for its day: I'm wondering how good a performer this design could have been if was built with the same engine, but with only a single crew and scaled down accordingly.  I have a feeling it could've had some seriously amazing performance if it retained good streamlining but weighed similar to the Curtiss P-6E or Boeing XP-9 (both had the same OEW: 2,669 lbs; the P-6E was 3,436 lbs loaded and the XP-9 was 3,639) rather than it's actual size.

What do you all think?

And reposting the same question(s) slightly modified is another bad habit.  Witness the "big and small diver bomber" thread.  We've been over dive bombing several times Kendra/Robyn.  The answers will not change.   Stop trying to compare apples and oranges all the time.

A Canberra pilots description of a 20 degree dive to fire RPs "pretty alarming, you were hanging off your straps."   I doubt very many large aircraft carried out 40 degree dives.

We've been over dive bombing several times Kendra/Robyn.

I was doing some research on the XA-23 Baltimore and they said it could dive up to 0.74 Mach which is higher than some fighters at the time were good for (the P-38 for one) and they were able to do a steep-dive up to at least 450 followed by a successful release and pull-out far as I know.

Stop trying to compare apples and oranges all the time.

As for comparing apples and oranges, I think the A-20, B-25, and B-26 shouldn't even be considered in the same class the A-17, SBD, SB2C, and A-1 are in.  However the A-20, A-24 (SBD), A-25 (SB2C) A-26 are actually technically in the same class silly as it is.
