First new item for 2014? Lancaster 'Blockbuster' on its way

Hi everyone,

Sorry I've been a bit quiet since Telford.

I'd like to thank everyone for their support in 2013, and hope to bring you new items to enjoy for 2014, hopefully with some whatifery to!

First new release for 2014 is likely to be a 1/72 Lancaster 'Blockbuster' 12000lb bomb conversion (with the bulged doors in out Tallboy set, for the Airfix kit), I just got the test cast from Paul and it looks great, so first production mould is being made next week!

First show outing will be Huddersfield in February, so look forward to catching up face to face then.

I'll post a picture of the Blockbuster up soon.

Excellent news Colin, you could do with having a word with your Airfix contacts to verify whats in the new Lancaster B.I(FE)/B.III to determine if anything worth adding such as Post War bits for the MR versions etc.

I will Geoff, I have a feeling its just new decals but will check.

Well if we are making a wish list of WWII bomber components why not make a Halifax Z nose and Preston Green ventral turret, FN50 fairing for a Short Sterling MKIII as well as the Hercules XVI power eggs used with the MKIII. A decent conversion set to make a Lancaster MKVI  would also be nice.

Clear resin Halifax Z nose is underway, hopefully ready soon. I was just waiting for Revell not to release theirs before I finished mine.

The Lancaster (FE) would need larger radiators and the larger tropical intakes.  The way the engines have been broken down means it's an easy extra sprue.  Or resin extras...

A Martin mid upper turret would mean a new drop in panel on the fuselage as it's further forward than the standard FN turret.

A new resin Lancaster tailwheel using the 1979 Airfix one as a pattern would be an ideal extra for those who have a small stash of Hasegawa and Revell Lancasters.  Lincoln style rudders for post war machines wouldn't go amiss either.

A2Z are supposedly doing a Lancaster VI conversion (at least I'm assuming so - he did announce a Manchester and a Lincoln conversion) but there's a trader on ebay knocking out some copies of the old DB Merlin 85s which might fit the Airfix Lancaster B.II.  The resin he uses is horrid.

I know the guy, He's the one I very nearly bought out a few years back after Lee noticed a Britmodeller member offering up his small casting business for sale. He rejected my offer for what he felt was a likely higher bid from elsewhere that never materialized.................I used his crude early Avro Manchester conversion on my Mancuinian build. His later conversion is a bit better, but the resin is as Lee says....Horrid.

If that's the guy with the black resin I have always avoided his stuff preferring better known outlets such as A2Z and Freightdog.
