My stash just grew again (2014)

First kit of 2014 ! Not sure what is wrong with me, but in the last year I've bought half a dozen Luftwaffe a/c ! Strange but true. Maybe it's an affliction we all go through at some point in our history buff/ modelling lives ? Or maybe it's just beacause I've always enjoyed opening a model, and seeing for the first time what an a/c type was really like ? I think you can tell alot about an aeroplane's flight characteristics by flondling it and 'flying' it around the room ?

Another ebay purchase arrived today

1 x 1/72 Modeldecal set 94. This is the third copy of this set I have bought. Love all the Phantom markings which are ideal for late 60's early to mid 70's whiffs. I had failed to notice that there are also marking for Lightening F2A's on the sheet so that's a bonus seeing that I have two of the recent Airfix aircraft to do as real world

One of those Lightning schemes on Sheet 94 is the same aircraft as depicted on the Airfix kit's box art Alastair, but in the earlier all-silver finish.

The Airfix decals are an almost exact copy of those on Modeldecal Sheet 25 for XXN781 'Boss Cat', whereas XN793 'King Cobra' is in the all silver scheme in the Airfix decals.

A 1:72 Matchbox Dassault Mystère IV (Revell re-boxing) - will probably be converted into a N/AW fighter with a radar nose and an afterburner engine, inspired by the pretty Mystère IV N prototype.

Things are (already) getting serious! While I wait to take pics of the most recent, finished Xmas holiday project I already started with the Mystere IVA. Now it will turn into a serious IVN, I take on the challenge and try to convert it into a fictional service aircraft. Messy work on the fuselage (new nose, new air intake, new exhaust section, and - most of all - a new two seater cockpit!), but seems feasible, found good implants and donation parts...  

And it will certainly NOT become a French service aircraft, I already have a plan.

Received a Trumpeter 1/350th HMS Daring Type 45 Destroyer, makes an interesting comparisson to the Airfix kits as a more straight forward structure than the Airfix kit and greater use of etch for detailing.

In Calgary today, picked up a new tool Airfix 1/72 Harrier GR.1 and an Italeri 1/72 F-35A.  As this kit doesn't have any Canadian marking included, bought a set of CF-188 decals to rob --

Also got a very large sheet of 2mm thich Evergreen white styrene sheet, plus a smaller 1.5mm package.

My first of the year, a crimble present to myself (mostly just for putting up with it!):

1:35 resin kit of the walker tank from the climactic scene in the original Ghost in the Shell movie. It's a recast of a long-OOP garage kit.

Not decided whether to build it "stock", or modify it with different weapons and/or extra armour...

Had an eye on that one, too, but could not convince myself to purchase it. I'd also be stuck between building options - but I would not hand too much extra ordnance onto it. It's sleek as it is, I guess it could easily look Warhammer-like (unless that's intended, but it would IMHO be a shame  )

I'd rather worry about the paint scheme - either a pale sand (original style, maybe Hemp), or a real world military paint scheme. JGSDF (Dark Green/Earth) could look interesting, or the Royal Army city scheme (white/grey/brown "cubes" all over), since the tank is rather an urban than a field vehicle?

Can you tell something about fit and pouring quality? Recasts can vary MASSIVELY!

It's from E2046, who have been pretty good thus far for me. Preliminary inspection seems promising. I'll get a couple of photos of the parts if you want?

My thinking was to switch out one of the gatling-gun arms for either a Tachikoma-style howitzer/grenade launcher, or possibly some sort of missile box-launcher. Nothing too major, and I certainly wouldn't be going all 40k-let's-see-how-many-guns-we-can-stick-on!

Paint scheme would be fairly crucial - I like the idea of the Berlin Brigade disruptive scheme, though it's a pain to paint! Maybe a simpler splinter/digital pattern...

The other, slightly wacky thought was to do it as a Tachikoma. Bright blue, add the eye globes, reading a book. I have the Wave 1:24 Tachi, so could pose them together....

Had a short training day at work so I popped into Hamleys. As expected most stuff is cheaper on the internet but they do have the widest range of any London model shop...

On sale at £5, the new Airfix 1/72 Hawker Typhoon 1B gift set.

They also had the Gloster Gladiator gift set at £5. If anyone wants I can pop back in on Thursday to pick some up.
