Got the Airfix Spitfire Mk I/Mk IIa I wanted at Hendon. My alternative pre war build can now commence, and no I'm not going down Mike M's Hendon 1940 path.....nice as they are.

Via Ebay.
Scratchaeronautics CASA C212 Aviocar.

Had a look at this at Hendon. Looked very nice in the box. Kinda made me think of what would have happened if Short's had continued developing the Skyvan idea

They did - they were called the SD330 and SD360 (or - more colloquially - 'Sheds').  The 330 became the C-23 Sherpa in USAF service.  I remember working them in and out of Fairford and Kemble.

Mike's would have been cheaper though.

The Rainbow's a SUPERB looking aircraft and even worked pretty well too. I've got the book about it and it's a terrific read.

Do you mean this one Kit?
World's Fastest Multi-Engine Piston Aircraft: Republic's XR-12 Rainbow & the Hughes XF-11 by Mike Michat.
It's excellent! In fact I nearly bought the Anigrand Kit a while back, but they are a lot of Money

That's the one, yes, Mike Michat's a pretty darn good aviation author to my mind.

I've got two XF-11 kits, but not a Rainbow kit sadly. (Yet......... ;D)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Anigrand XF-12 Rainbow. (from Mike McEvoy)

Green with envy mode full on!

You could always buy one from here.

Gondor

Wrong XF-12!  ;D

The XF-12 Rainbow is this one: http://www.anigrand.com/AA2057_XF-12.htm

Looks like I Bungled that then  ;D

I was sitting next to him when he was comparing fuselage halves, one slightly longer than the other. I still think you could kitbash it by using a Lockheed Constellation C-69 fuselage and single fin from a PB4Y-2. Straight wings from a Shackleton.
That would be an interesting, if expensive kitbash ;D
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

From Hendon, all 1/72

Hasegawa J7W1 Shinden
Eduard MiG15 'profi pack' Looks very nice upon looking at the kit and etch
Eduard L39 Albertross but in Edwards AFB markings, which will NOT be used - EVER!! I thing there's an ideal wiffing candidate there.

You know what really bugs me? When I don't have the readies, the kits I want are there almost taunting me. When I DO have the readies, they are nowhere to be seen!! Go figure!

This is a manifestation of Rheged's law of maximum cussedness.   Happens to me too.....and probably most of us!

at the hendon show and the end of an EXPENSIVE weekend of model buying

1/72 airfix canberra B(I).6
1/72 airfix strikemaster [a very old boxing with omani AF and RAF Red Pelican aerobatic team decals]
1/72 airfix lightning F2A [my third one and that completes the first part of the cunning plan]
1/72 revell F8F-1 bearcat [thanks to kitbasher for this one]

also found a couple of new lightning T4/T5 decal sheets, a pavla resin cockpit set for the KP models MiG-15UTI and an EB cockpit set for the italeri/ revell  :tornado: F3

there were many good models on the wiff stand but my favorite by a long way was McColm's superb Neptune.

Radish

I'm mad.

Just ordered 3 x Monogram/Revell 1/48th P-61s. They'll all be daft ones of course.

Well I've just received through the post from E-bay a Dragon 1/200 Tu-95 'Oriental Express'

So yes, there now ARE three bears!  ;D This one will be in RAF Bomber Command colours to accompany the earlier (and at some point, later) Avro/Tupolev (M)R.1 Chancellor

Bought it at this scale (1) because I got it cheap , and (2) because it saves me a whole 97mm wingspan space on the shelf!  ;D

Importantly the large underfuselage radome is moulded seperately (and won't be being affixed ....well not to this kit anyway!  ;))

As an unplanned bonus there also appears to be at least one cruise / anti-shipping missile on the sprues.

mmmmm....wonder if the 1/200 Blue Steel from the Vulcan would fit anywhere ? ?
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.
