Let's not forget that Nevil Shute was a pilot and skilled aero engineer who worked for Vickers, De Havilland and Airspeed. He also worked the Panjandrum, a very Whiff-looking device  ;D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panjandrum
He knew what he was writing about and as such had good ideas on how the industry would develop.

He even raced Jaguars, as seen in On The Beach.

And at the other end of the speed scale he worked with Barnes Wallis on the R100 airship, my fave lighter-than-air vehicle.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

Shute didn't just work for Airspeed, he and A. Hessel Tiltman founded the company.

another Haynes manual.  How to survive an alien attack
I will have to see how unreadable the redacted part are, possibly a led bar light and post its.

From Waterstones  Napoleon the Great by Andrew Roberts. The new biography on the man. It's in an all white cover which caused a discussion in the branch as that's a colour all of us associated with the Ancient Regime. It does have a large gold N in the centre and gold "bees" as well so the association with Napoleon is there. I mention this simply because it just shows the conversations you can get into in a proper bookshop

In Smiths because the deal was to good to turn down. They took off £2 from the rrp of each book and then £5.98 because it was 2 for £22. I'm actually still trying to figure it out but am quite happy  ;D

Wars of the Roses - Trinity by Conn Iggulden. Second in his series. I like his writing style and mixture of history and fiction. He is very clear at the end of the book where he mashes the two up.

Dragons at Crumbling Castle by Terry Pratchett. A collection of 14 stories for small kids, very small looking at the type size, but I've always been told I'm a big kid so I'll enjoy it. Enjoyed his previous kids books and being a collection will be ideal for train journeys

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I came across Terry Pratchett's 'the Long War' (second in the 'Long Earth' series). It's a collaboration with Stephen Baxter. Science fiction, in which Earth is part of a series of parallel universes between which people can easily travel. Very enjoyable, so I've ordered the first volume of the series as well.

i got a copy of "Wunderwaffen 1: The Devils Pilot"
a great looking Luft'46 Graphic Novel with an interesting what if scenario.
great looking of illustrations and artwork of German Lippish P.13a, Ho229, Fa.223, USAAF P-80A's, B-29A's and others....

the story begins in August 1946, and follows a failed D-day landing of june 6 1944.

-May 8 1945: Adolf Hitler survives an assassination attempt, but loses an arm and the side of his face was burned.
-December 17 1945: the concentration-camp of Auschwitz was closed down and work began on converting it to "Special Zone Auschwitz".
-March 29 1946: Heinrich Himmler establishes "Sonderbüro 13", who will be in change of all of Germany's top secret weapons programs.

on the bench:

-all kinds of things.

I can't see that ending well...

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Considering the Nazis' views on body image and repulsion at disfigurement and handicap, no I don't think it would end well - for the Fuhrer.   Retirement followed by euthanasia perhaps?
