Speaking of which, I just came across a nice article on this train:
http://www.gereports.com/post/91355522740/building-a-jet-propelled-train-was-not-rocket-science

video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBBQL5x3-34

That's terrific Harro, and the video is utterly briliiant. What a modest guy to have done all that.

I'm still amazed the thing stayed on the track though, the RDC car's bogies were hardly special and US track laying standards of the period were less than optimal for high speed running.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

I'm adapting one of the Dapol shunters for my 00/Ho clockwork train set.
I've still got the Revell 1/87 Transrapid 07 #06100.Two car monorail static maglev train set, track and pylons. Unlike the press photos the two car units have painted blacked-out windows.
Was going to motorise one unit and try and find another set to make a longer train.
Two sets appeared on EBay recently.

A few years ago I saw an actual maglev model train at a modelshow. Someone had glued a superconducting magnet under an old steam loco. He dipped the magnet in liquid nitrogen and set the loco on (IIRC) an ordinary HO track, where the loco would hover a few mm above the rails. A tiny push was sufficient to send it around the oval track a few times.
I can't find any photos in my archive, though.

I'm sure I saw something like that on the TV channel Quest, a few months ago. The program was about trains, speed and the future.
Has a Maglev train ever been trialled in Britain?

TallEng

Birmingham Airport used to have a MagLev, it ran between the terminal and the Railway Station.
But it wasn't high speed. Wiki has more info if you're interested.

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

A raid in my spares box could come up with a pair of jet engines. Either mounted to the roof of a Ho/00 Triang second hand Midland Pulman- driving car is blue and non driving car is grey. The single carrige is made up of two non power cars I found in a skip, cut in half and stuck together. Well played with, needs repainting and weathering. Thought of adding lighting.
The other idea is to repaint a Lima HST 125 in the Blue Pullman colour scheme.
Using one of the Peco plans for small layouts, come up with a continuous loop which can be covered by tunnels or back scene and add a helicopter pad or a small airfield.
