That actually could work. I'll use the nose art, serial number, and one of the roundels from the American sheet, the fuselage markings and codes from the German sheet, and the fin flash and two of the roundels from the British sheet.

Sounds like a plan.  Maybe put the stars upside-down on the fuselage?

The decals are applied, although I did have a bit of trouble with the Hasegawa ones. They're thin and set really well, at the price of being incredibly easy to tear. They also wouldn't float off the sheet unless they sat in water for close to a minute. One last thing, does anyone know how to strengthen a landing gear join? The starboad one is a bit too weak (glue won't fully dry) and keeps collapsing.
Photos of the completed build will be coming soon, and I may even build a diorama for it.

I enjoyed this build, even with the frustrations of the different plastics, parts not staying where they should be, etc.

There you go.  That'll freak out the JMNs.

Can you remove the offending leg, drill it and what it fits into, and then pin it?
Although in my experience given enough time even the biggest glob of glue will dry eventually.

Last night I removed the weak gear leg and scraped out as much of the old glue as I could. I found a drill bit that was thin enough and turned it by hand. The leg and gear door were also scraped of the old glue and then reinserted. I used superglue to secure it and let it sit overnight. Good thing is that now it can finally sit level without assistance. For the diorama I'm thinking on a carrier deck made of scrap wood.

just hired a dvd and put it the player and watching it now and one of the first aircraft shown looked to me almost just like this. the wing's dihedral especially. movie is called The Sky Crawlers, picked it up by chance. nice shinden type in there so far too.

ok after watching the whole movie and doing a google search I retract that statement. not even close to the kitbash. I still love this model, the combination of aircraft is excellent and it looks well put together, have you thought of a name or is it staying kitbash?

It's probably staying 'kitbash', since I can't really think of anything.

Another update. Turns out that the superglue didn't work as well as expected (gear leg collapsed yet again). So I removed the main gear, closed up the doors, and have drilled a hole in the bottom for a dowel. Base will be made of scrap plywood, with an attempt to make it look decent.

Since the landing gear had a few issues, I built a stand for the kitbash:

It was made from a plank of (IIRC) maple plywood cut nearly in half (mismeasured by a 1/2 inch or so) and what appears to be a 1/2 inch dowel (can't tell, diameter might be off). It was painted flat grey and olive drab in an effort to imitate the late war RAF day fighter scheme. I now declare this build to be 100% finished

I like the wings.  Particularly the way they get wider half way along.
I might have to pinch that idea...


<edit>  D'oh!  It's because the flaps are down (thanks Brad).  Slaps forehead.
However, I do like the way it looks and i'm sure I can come up with a reason why you would want your wings to be wider at the end.
Apart from having had the flaps shot off that is.
