Yes, that'd work. The Swift was a much better aircraft at low level, the FR5s won the NATO Recce Competition more than once, and their competitors included the USAFE too.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Two replies whilst I was typing ....but in general agreement ...great minds think alike / fools never differ!

So the short answer appears to be .....NO  I suppose I was alluding back to the Battle of Britain as an illustration rather than a 'job description' for the Hunter and Swift. As you say the requirement of top cover & bomber destroyer wasn't needed (didn't exist) in the 50's

(mind you, visions of aerial armadas of 'Badgers' escorted by the relevant MiGs being met by Swift and Hunters is an interesting one!)   :o

So could we turn the Swift into a Vampire/Venom replacement and the Hunter into the Meteor replacement? The low level ruggedness of the Swift PR.5 appearing earlier as a Swift FGA.2 ?

Or could the RAF support two aircraft performing the same role (knowing where (with hindsight) the RAF / British Aircraft Industry was heading probably again.....NO?)
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

So that's why Testors/Hawk put bombs on their Swift model! They were wayyyyyy ahead of us!  ;) ;D

That was going to be my next suggestion. In fact I have an old Hawk/Testors one on the bench right now, slowly being whiffed into a Royal Navy attack aircraft. Haven't figured out the weaponry yet, might grab some ugly old bits, that may or may not look like real world inventions, from the spares box and come up with backstories for them as well.

Don't see why not. They did it with the V Bombers
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Well my hawk (most trusted name in modelling ) Swift arrived in the post yesterday.....I'd forgotten how small the fin on the model is ...not a huge space to work with like with the Lightning tail  :-\

Ah well it'll be a while before this project gets to the modelling table, maybe a moment of divine inspiration will hit me before then, like the fact I'm just wondering what a BAe Hawk's tail would look like on the Swift?

just to add my 2p worth.....

Martin H did the pegasus kit of the swift in abu dhabi or qatari AF markings a few years back.

I'm thinking of something that'll probably look similar. I'm wanting to put the RAF into 'desert' camo post-war, and I'm working on (ie thinking about it occasionally!) a backstory to increase the UK's involvement in Egypt and the 'Middle East'. Several planes will be involved, from Vampires through to Hunters and I've a definite desire for a 'desert' Swift
