2014 a fallow year ?

Well the 2014 toy Fairs have kicked off, London went by last week virtually unnoticed by the Model websites & forums, Nuremberg started yesterday and so far news of new kits are few and far between.

Nice to see some of the Airfix 2014 range appear as test shots and/or sprues, the Swift is at T-3 level (3rd testshot) and looking good, nothing new from Revell as some hoped that they had held some choice bits back from the New years listings
Hasegawa have sprue shots of their F-35A but no new surprises, Dragon have nowt in their Cyberhobby line and about the only thing of interest is their new Black label range of more unusual armour in 1/35th.
Chris P is rather happy with Tamiya as they have scaled down their F-16C to 1/72nd scale.

Looks like 2014 might well be a stash building year rather than a stash adding year as interesting new models that generally become a must buy are rather slim

Considering the number of kits I have in my stash I could do with a whole decade of fallow years then!  :-\

Just purchased 4 kits I didn't need (but they looked so good - the ideas in my head were SOOO persuasive!) so the no buying of kits in 2014 resolution lasted almost the length of January (pretty good going actually!)

On my present rate of production I need the whole year just to build the kits I bought in December 2013  :banghead:
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

Ya I could do with a year of 'toning it down'. I too keep buying kits I don't want with money I don't have !

Besides, Airfix are putting out enough to keep me going

Good job Airfix do have A nice line up or pickings would be even thinner in 2014 !

Yup we are seeing the effects of the global recession hitting the hobby. The time lag between development and production means that whilst we are just coming out of the thing (and I won't argue the truth of that statement  ) the model companies obviously had new stuff developed which was released during the lean years but held back on their development programmes. Be a year or so before they get back into their stride.

Airfix is an unusual case because they got up and running again as the recession hit or maybe even whilst in the depths of it and thus have all these nice new kits coming through

To properly kill of the stash, I already need to live until at least 145 years of age. Obviously with eyesight and finger mobility unimpeded.

For the last few years,  I've laid out my 'to-buy' list in December for the following year and it tends to not quite all happen.
I'm already over 1/2 way through my 2014 list.
Yup.  It might be a fallow year regarding new release purchases.

Here's to the building!  :drink:  :drink:

Yes I concur here's to the building!      :drink:  :drink:

Three real world builds and a whiff on the go at the moment, but if I could only stop buying :banghead:

Trying desperately not to think about the Airfix Swift  :-\

I suppose we'll get further announcements during the Year at the Japanese Toy Fairs and the US Nationals  of some unlisted projects.

But for Nuremberg the news is rather limited and choices for must buy models that would steer your plans for the next 12 months are rather limited. It does have a knock on effect as the aftermarket guys look out for add-ons, replacement parts and decals for these new kits and with a limited selection of new kits to work with together with limited options for the selected aircraft (such as the Swift or Lightning F2A add on choices are somewhat limited).

Thank goodness Kittyhawk have said that they will release all three F-35 variants in 1/72nd as the likes of Hasegawa, Italeri and Academy appear to have settled on the F-35A only for this year so far

They could all be saving it for Telford. F-35 sounds like a nice option though.

On the other hand, it may inspire the aftermarket guys to put more effort into what-if stuff...

i know that most kits announced are just re-decaled variants of exisiting kits or re-releases of older moulds, but there are some nice gems ammong them. but with the current economy, most companies cant invest in many new moulds.

Hasegawa (or Fujimi, i dont remember atm) is coming with a whole line of 1/72 Su-27 Flanker variants, including the 2-seat Su-27KUB.
the 2-seat variations of Trumpeters recently released 1/144 Rafale, F-16 and Su-27/J-11 Flanker kits are also a more then welcome addition to the stash as i really want to get some 2-seaters in my collection, same goes for the Revell 1/144 Typhoon (witch i plan to build as a 2-seat special strike version) and the Airbus A400M (would be nice to have a few of those next to the 1/72 version)

as far as airfix goes, the new 1/72 Blenheim Mk.I would look great in Belgian markings, and i also have a soft spot for the Supermarine Swift. im also getting the "old new" Fouga Magister kit (for the Belgian decals) and use them on the Heller kit (or is that kit the same mould?)
on the bench:

-all kinds of things.

That's the plan I have for it. Instead of the Battle
