OR, what if the Soviets decided to make a no-expense-spared propaganda flying movie during the Cold War when they had no access to real western types? Su-15UM's playing Phantoms? Su-24's playing F-111s? Su-7's playing Lightnings?

You mean like when the yanks would use F5's or F84's and call the MiGs???? It's a hell of an idea.

Like the idea of the 'Hollywood Harriers' though.

So do I!!   Is anyone brave/stupid /imaginative enough to   turn it round, and have ,  for instance ,  Hurricanes  as Elstree Mustangs or Albemarles as Pinewood Marauders??  All other suggestions gratefully received

I do seem to remember a thread with movie planes here somewhere.
Spanish HA-1112-M1L Buchón, impersonating Mustangs and P-47's for the movie, Patton, and hurricanes in the BoB movie!
Now, can i find it!

The USAF Delfin is from a Czech film called "Vysoka modra zed" - "High Blue Wall":

Info from user 173flogger on this thread : http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,31860.0.html

You can get a book about the Delfin which includes a decal sheet that has markings for these aircraft:

Be interesting to put an accurate model of one of the Czech "movie stars" on the What If table at a show then wait for the "oh that's just silly!" comment.....

And of course, this is something in itself that should put any Whiffer to think a bit and bury his head in the dirt in shame. F-48 makes it obvious that Douglas' Racer P-48 was so much scorned by the USAAC in '39 that he went on establish a proxy company by the name of Mc Donnell -only to sell fighters to the Army.  Which was obvious to USN brass which still liked the jets projected by Mc Donnell to buy them but classify them as Douglas (FD1 and F2D). Give them a development time of 15 to 20 years -nothing worth mentioning compared to the likes of F-35- allow them keeping the type number in the sense Thunderjets and Thunderstreaks were F-84s and even the name becomes sooooo real and on-mark...
