They are normally red.

If you want to look at some examples, Yefim Gordon's "OKB Sukhoi" contains a good selection of colour photos of aircraft from the Fifties-era Su-7 to the Current-era Su-27/35 and all the intake covers are red. Similarly red covers are shown on Tu-22 Blinder and Tu-22M Backfires in Gordon & Komissarov's "Tupolev Tu-22/22M" (although the later Backfires with the angular, "Foxbat"-style intakes appear to use unpainted canvas covers).

Thank you McGreig. I actually have very little in my library on Russian aircraft that goes into any depth, a situation that I must rectify.

Went to paint grey primer on the aircraft and found the rattle tin was empty, no time to buy another so its out with the old hairy stick and a tin of grey  :banghead:

No tips for the World Cup though.

Considering different marking other than the Russian Air Force, Chinese or maybe Indian spring to mind.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Captain Canada

I vote Chinese since they seem to be building prototypes like it's going out of style !

I am going to stick with Russian although if I build another it could well be one of the others. Currently pondering what shade of Green to do the Radome and other dielectric panels.

I have decided not to try and get the Yak-75 finished for Perth. There is far too much to be done so it will be finished here for the Group Build first then make its first public outing at Glasgow in October.

At least this means that I can get a few flaws I have found to be treated for a better finish as well.

Russian is a good choice as well.

Go for quality. We'll wait!

Now I am going to take the Yak-75 to Perth as a part built so that others can see what I have done. Might hide it behind a curtain as a "secret project"

Just under a month to go before the end of the Za Rodinu group build so there is a good possibility that I will finish the Yak-75 in time seeing as the basic paint scheme is on the aircraft. Despite the odd little problem surfacing from applying paint I think I will refrain from attempting to correct the flaws as I would end up missing the deadline.

Finally managed to get some work done on the "Flapper", perhaps I should have made a 1920's aircraft.....

Painting is almost finished at last! The fuselage is almost ready for decals, tomorrow hopefully, exhausts are painted and should be fitted over the weekend as well. The undercarriage has had a coat of paint applied and the wheels need the hubs painted on one side. The ejector seat still needs details painted as does the control stick. So just about there and still a few days to go to the end of the Group Build! I might actually finish in time!
