If you end up breaking the brittle landing gear, you could always make it into a flying boat

Or on floats!

Test hacking on some sprue has convinced me that this plastic is far too brittle, and attempting to modify the landing gear would simply be courting disaster.

Make new legs.  Use some brass wire and tube.  Cut the tube to length to represent the wheel leg, pass the wire through it and bend to form a wheel attachment.   Make the gear door from plasticard.  That is what I often do, works a treat!

Nah, thanks for the advice, and I'll file it in my fevered brain for future use, but I'm taking the lazy way out right now. I used up my creativity credits when I scratched the pit, something I've rarely done, and never before with a tiny little ejection seat handle.  ;D

Looking forward to seeing what happens here... looks interesting so far, man.  Keep up the good work.

What to do about the dreaded 'see through' effect from the rear? Well, an industrious person would use a contour gauge to ascertain the exact curvature of the interior, and then cut a piece of plastic to fit. The lazy person, aka The Rat, steals an old wheel from the spares box and cements it in.

Fuselage is now closed, wings and horizontal stabilisers have been attached. The 'flying around the room while making noises' stage has begun.

Outstanding solution !!!   You even got some "extra" details too.

Painting has begun, light grey underside, probably green/brown uppers as suggested by Dizzyfugu. Or might go two-tone green. Decisions, decisions...

RATS! Another (minor) paint disaster. Scrabbling through the paint stash garnered me a lovely tan brown that looked quite fetching, opened it, stirred it, saw no problems, and applied it. After watching it not turn flat the way I expected it to, checked the bottle and found it's a gloss.  :banghead:  Oh well, it'll be okay as a base coat once a proper flat one is procured and applied. Used to have an old tube of Humbrol matting agent that would be just the ticket, but it seems to have diappeared into uncharted space.

That happens all the time eh ? And Humbrol tins are odd to begin with. I have flat black that turns gloss if stirred too much/ not enough, and the green I've been doing my Harriers with decided to turn a from a smooth semi-gloss to a grainy flat last night....wierd.

AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGH! Yet ANOTHER paint problem! Picked up a bottle of Tamiya NATO Brown, which has now been applied twice and still looks like something you find on the bottom of your shoe after someone hasn't picked up after their dog. Q-Tip and brake fluid project I guess.  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
