F-104 Concept

I remember seeing a proposal for an F-104 with a larger wing similar to the YF-23 than the regular design (more taper, lower aspect): Despite what you'd think, it allowed a slightly higher speed despite the larger wing

Anybody heard of this proposal or seen the drawing?

Lockheed made several designs based on the basic F-104. The CL-1200 was a late design, with shoulder-mounted wings, but there were even larger designs for supersonic bombers, with four engines in two wing nacelles, which were more or less scaled-up Starfighters.

IIRC, there is/was even a Chinese fighter design that resembled a Starfighter, but with low-mounted wings and Stabilizer. I have seen a wind tunnel model of that thing somewhere in a book about Chinese aviation...

A bigger wing would have been nice, just to have another pair of pylons.....and maybe more fuel !

I have been considering giving a F-104 delta wings... but the mid-wing position just looks way too odd! The MiG Analog is a better alternative, but I may try to build that Chinese low-wing thing some day.
