A What If future scenario

Over the last few days I have been pondering what is on the News Programmes.
Russia, it appears has invaded sorry carried out a policing action in Ukraine, essentially to stop Ukraine joining with the EU.
My native country, Scotland, is on the slippery slope to a referendum about whether we should declare independence or NOT!

So put these two ideas together, add a fair splodge of Whiffery and what do you get?

Ukraine separates from the Russian sphere of influence and joins the EU.
Russia is seriously pi55ed of about this and looks for a way to redress the balance.

September 2014, Scotland votes to separate from the UK and go independent.
Despite the Scottish First Minister's assurances(!) we are not allowed to remain as members of the EU, and we are left without any of the assets that we were assured we would retain, particularly the military.

Russia see's it's chance and offers to assist Scotland.

I already have several ideas about Russian types of aircraft in the new Scottish Air Force markings.

So what thoughts do you have for this exceedingly unlikely scenario?

Sorry, Not even going to touch this one! Way to many potential pitfalls for breaking the no politics rule and potential for arguments between friends/acquaintences. Just reading it gives me a bad feeling!

I wouldn't fret about the political aspects of it....you're just using that scenario as an excuse to put cool Russian a/c in cool Scottish markings...so go for it !

I have to admit that I had a similar idea for using a similar background for my entry in the Scottish Indpendence GB.  Brother Claymore was kind enough to make me some decals. I picked up a 1/144 Russian jet ,cheap, and then couldn't decide how to finish it so it's back in the box to be Wiffied later. Have to admit that I was concerned about doing a Scottish war plane ready for an "official visit" to England .

I agree completely. Ever since I was old enough to vote, I have had very strong feelings about at least one of these issues and I think that they are both too current, too serious and too potentially divisive to provide a comfortable background for a whiff.

First I had no intentions to start a political debate on any of these subjects. In fact my personal thoughts about politics are rather ambivalent. In my mind politicians are no better than the marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation which the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy defines as "a bunch of mindless jerks who'll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes."

No I was just thinking of the Whiffing possibilities.

I did, way back in  the mid 1970's, build an F-16 of the Free Scottish Air Force. Based on the original Hasegawa kit which was of the prototype YF-16, I gave it a larger nose to house a radar, an avionics hump from an A-4 kit, a fixed refuelling probe (scratchbuilt), wider low pressure tyres so it could operate from peat bogs!, and armament was a mix of AIM-9 and AIM-7.

The colour scheme was light grey underside and a three tone camouflage on the top. The colours being a dark brown with a slight golden hint "Bracken Brown, Autumn", Dark Green "Scots Pine Green" and a darkish grey that was more purple than anything else "Heather Grey".

National markings were red/blue roundels but with the red centre in the shape of a Thistle head, and the fin flash was the Saltire (St Andrews cross) at the top of the rudder much like the Spanish Air Force tail marking.

I gave that model away to someone a few months later.

Following on from that lot of UDIs, the Forest of Dean declares independance from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the EU, Europe AND the rest of the world!

As there isn't a flat space for a runway of any length in the District, except the flatlands I can see out of my front window, the FoDAF consists entirely of flying boats, float and seaplanes, all of which operate from the west side of the River Severn as the east side is part of England.......  ;D  ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

But, Kit, is there enough space for the extended wing spans?

Meanwhile on the American Continent...
* The bleeding hearts give California back to Mexico and then wonders why they can't keep people from crossing that border illegally after one year.
* Texas finally makes good on it's threats to secede from the United States of America and become (Once more) The Free Texas Republic. Oklahoma, Kansas, Arizona and New Mexico quickly join the New Republic Union. Washington gets busy drawing "Red lines that shall not be crossed!" and sending envoys to break the union up, much to the laughter and cat calls of the Unionist.
D.C. realizes they can not declare war because with Arizona and Texas the union has more tanks, aircraft ("The Bone Yard"), domestic oil and people actually ready to fight instead of talk.
The negotiations turn to trade and Washington pleads with Texas, Arizona and New Mexico to quit sending all the illegal Mexican border crossers to cross into the other Non-Union states.
Texas stars on FA-18s? B-52s in Kansas blue colors? Blackhawks and Apaches in Oklahoma Home Guard livery? Oh the possibilities.

In reaction to California's return to Mexico, Washington and Oregon and parts of Idaho and Montana that formed the original Columbia District realise the folly of their ways, tear up the Oregon Treaty and plead with the UK to be brought into the British Commonwealth.  They join British Columbia to form Cascadia with Queen Elizabeth II as head of State.

Not so fanciful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascadia_(independence_movement)

Meanwhile, isolated from Continental USA, Hawaii considers whether to declare independence as the Republic of Hawaii.  Alaska considers either independence or a merger with Yukon to form a new Canadian province Yukon and Alaska (YA).  Vladimir Putin denies planning to buy Alaska back from the US
