Looking good ! Almost has an airliner feel to it in that last pic.

You would be thinking of the TU-166 which was developed in case the Tu-114 failed to reach its target delivery date.

It's possibly also the colouring in combination with the 'jet-style' swept back wings (same angle as the Boeing 707 don't ya know - ah the wonders of Wikipedia!  ;)

Finished photos appearing at a site near you soon  ;D but in the meantime a dodgy comparision photo for those who might be interested  ;)

Gorgeous! The white back brings the slender fuselage out, and in fact I am surprised how good the British roundels look on this thing.

Yes indeed, that looks the BUSINESS in the RAF scheme.

All you have to do now is to graft a plug ugly radome under the nose and call it a Bear MR2.  ;D

In passing do you know why they painted the Shackleton's wing tops white? Apparently it was to keep the fuel tanks cool when flying in warmer climes.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

With the reading I've been doing on the Shackleton whilst building this I had discovered the reason behind the white wings. I did consider them for the Bear, but I didn't want to'copy' the Shackleton too much, and when you see the finished photos you'll see I've Shacketonised the Bear quite a bit ....at least paint scheme wise

Doesn't need another ugly radome, it's all ready got a big enough one being the Bear-D variant!  :o ;D

That's a great shot ! Really love the look of this one. And it sure does look good in RAF roundels !

As for the white upper wings....you learn something new everyday !

It does look right in roundels

Cool

Perhaps, we should ask Putin, if we could buy a few of him.  It would solve our lack MR, and help us all be friends again, after the recent misunderstanding.

I think the idea of the black nacelles was an admission that it was impossible to keep them clean, in between the effects of exhaust and dirt thrown up by the tires. You see the same thing on ships sometimes: the top half of masts behind the funnel are painted black to stop them looking dirty.

Same reason for the white spine section on Lightnings serving in Singapore: in that case it was to keep the AVPIN starter fuel tank cool.

Well the finished aircraft, the Hawker Siddeley/Tupolev (HaST) Chancellor (M)R.Mk.1 is now finished and can be found here http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,38715.0.html for those who haven't already stumbled across it, but I thought I'd better finished the build thread off for completeness.

DAY FOURTEEN TO FIFTEEN

So basically it's just the decals for these two days, 1/72 scale roundels used, on a kit this size it didn't seem to matter, as long as they were approximately (within a mm) of what they'd be correctly scaled at 1/144. Then underwing serials I've chosen a number from just before the first Phantom serials, since I guess the Phantoms would have been embargoed if we were receiving Bears, unless the Americans were really desperate to keep political avenues open (mmm...British Bears escorted by British Phantoms over the North Sea!)

Fuselage decals were a mish mash, the letter 'C' comes from a 1/48 Spitfire, the squadron 'logo' on the tail from the Airfix Nimrod and I can't remember where the union flag came from, possibly the 'spare' ones from the BAe 146 'Queen's Flight' decals or a 1/48 WWI set. The white fuselage 'Buzz-code' serials a la Canberra came from ......A Canberra   (specifically the Model Alliance serial set) and that was about it apart from plastering Satincote on to all surfaces.

So I'm happy with the result, and thanks to everybody for the positive comments during and at the end of this build....for the future, I do have another Bear (the HaST Chancellor name is just not going to stick! and The Works must stop doing there 30% off online sales as well! ;)) and I think I'd like to see what 'the bear' would look like in Nimrod clothing, or possibly the AEW version of 8 squadron that Kit alluded to, but I think three RAF bears is perhaps just a little too much

So watch this space (but not just yet!) ... for the bear new clothes 10 years on, or should I say for the final pun of the build, with reference to the name of 'my' bear ......... BEORN AGAIN! (groan!) ;) ;D

The undercarriage has been puzzling me.  I couldn't figure out how those big wheels fitted through those small flaps.
Then I spotted the bulges on the rear sections of the nacelles...

Final note, yes I hadn't spotted that....presumably when retracting/extending the undercarriage there are doors opening all the way to the rear of the nacelles. Quiet glad they 'close' for most of the time...I hate fixing undercarriage doors in place!  ;D
