But the RAF's heading the BA way anyway, what with C-17s, F-35s, RC-135s etc. etc.

Something oft overlooked in the whif world.....large, modern UK designed and built transports...either civil or RAF. Had a few thoughts on the subject but it's so hard to differentiate between Boeing/ Airbus already how do you modify either to look more 'British' ?

:tornado:

Hang Rolls-Royce engines on them and paint BIG Unions Jacks somewhere?  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

That's one of the reason's this Boeing Whatever is in the 'retro' scheme, the present day grey with slightly darker grey cheat-line is sooo boring, more boring than tactical aircraft in grey in my opinion (and some of them can be fairly uninteresting!)

I've a few jetliners to put in the RAF, and it's likely they'll all be retro or RAE 'raspberry ripple' variations...or training perhaps  ;)

One question ....why did that one (I think it was only one) VC-10 appear in tactical camouflage?
Oh to be whiffing again :-(

101 sqn had a k2 tanker in dark sea grey and green, badged B-bravo in the mid/late eighties when I was based there.
too old for a paper round, too young for me pensions, dammit, back to work then!

I was under the impression it was the only one in camouflage? And if so, why?

It was the very first one outshopped from Filton, but the RAF changed their minds after they'd seen it and tried all the other options, white with a blue stripe, hemp and grey etc.

Why do I get a vision of something similar to my wife choosing paint colours for the living room there??

I'm presuming 'tactical' camouflage was tried to 'match' with the Victor tankers already in service?

I'm presuming the various troop carrying airliner types would still be in the 'airline' type livery? ....it's just that I have this strange obsessive itch to put my RAF Trident into the camouflage scheme worn by that VC-10  :o ;D

I believe that was actually the case, yes. The original Airfix 'in-house' tanker conversions came with that scheme as the recommended livery.

The normal VC10 C1s stayed with the white+blue lightning stripe for some considerable time, even after some of them had been fitted with the extra wing refuelling pods.

I should imagine that a 'Tankerdent' in camo would look OUTSTANDING! Go for it.

Love a VC.10 in camo. Down at the bottom is a neat pic of a BA fuselage with a Hastings nose in the fire dump.

Okay, next question ....does anybody do the refuelling 'tackle' in 1/144 scale so I can hang it off a 'Tankerdent'  ;D

Airfix include the wing pods in their VC10 kit.

If you don't want to buy a complete kit talk nicely to someone  who likes building models with LONG wings and you never know what may pop through your letter box.....  ;)

That sounds a promising solution ....do you know anybody on here who builds models with long wings?

As for buying a complete kit...I keep watching Airfix VC-10s on E-bay, the price they go for scares me, it'd be cheaper to pop over to Bruntingthorpe and get bit's off a real VC-10 (oh b*m ....wrong scale! :banghead:)

And yes before you wonder if I'm really slow on the uptake....I do know who the LONG wing model maker is!  ;) Shall I drop you a PM?  ;D

Well if you don't survive (and we sincerely hope you do - survive that is!) at least you'll go with a smile on your face!  ;D
