Huckebein: Tank's final answer

If there's one thing I love, it's a good old "What If". I can remember coming across some old Luftwaffe 1946 and Tigers of Terra comics years and years ago, and almost literally overheating with excitement at seeing some of the fantastic German concepts drawn as if they were in action for real! It really fired up my desire to seek out and build What If planes, and that continues to this day!  :banghead:

One nice What If kit is the AMTech 1/48th Ta-183 Huckebein. This is a much nicer kit than the Pioneer 1/72 offering (although it's passable), and goes to gether really nicely (for the most part). When I had a chance to get one cheap, I couldn't pass it up, but it took a bit of time to work up the courage to build it.

Take a look at it and let me know what you think!

Captain Canada

I looked. And I liked !

The underside is interesting....I like the way the tank is mounted ! And the paint looks great too.

Looks far too real, and plausible.

Well done that man.

Cats are not real.
They are just physical manifestations of collisions between enigma & conundrum particles.

Thanks guys!

The tank "bay" is very nice, and it screams for a bomb to be fitted in there. I think this plane would look great with bombs on it, actually, painted in green/brown-violet.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Army of One

I like it.....I like it lots............did Tamiya do one in 1/48 or was it someone else's reboxed.....?
BODY,BODY....HEAD..!!!!

IF YER HIT, YER DEAD!!!!

The Wooksta!

Tamiya's was the Amtech kit reboxed with their Kettenkrad.

Holy cow, this one rocks! Lovely and very well rendered camo. And nice article too!

For me too Luft 46 was love at first sight. Just like you I ran into artwork of the German paper planes and was immediately hooked. I got the Aerotech Ta 183 in 1/72 scale in the stash and I intend to do the 1/48 version as well, probably the Tamiya offering.

Faust

Thanks, man!

I don't know the Aerotech kit in 1/72. I have the PM kit; is it the same one reissued? the Tamiya Huckebein is the same as the AMTech, but with the added kettenrad, which is nice!

Luft '46 is very addictive, eh? I really want to do something in Argentinian Navy colours. Hmm...  A folded-wing Ta-183C sounds like an idea...

MichelC

The Aerotech kit is a resin kit and has nothing to do with the PM kit. It's a multimedia kit with white metal and photoetch to supplement the resin. Quite expensive but very nice.

Luft 46 addictive? No, I can stop anytime. Now, where are the Lorin ramjets for my 183 before I get the shakes... LOL

Very nice Huckebein

But (JMN hat on for a minute [sorry]) the Ta.183 wasn't Tank's final answer, it was Hans Multhopp who designed it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Multhopp

This below was Tank's final answer because he wasn't sure about the T-Tail arrangement.  Tank had submitted both these designs to the competition which the Multhopp design eventually won.

Faust

Oh, woops... I stand erected!

Wait...

Corrected! That's the word I wanted!

I have to say, I think I like Multhopp's answer better. Still, the plane had Tank's name on it... :)

Captain Canada

The T-tail for sure. The other one would take some getting used to !

Well I'm fairly sure it was the forerunner to the Saab Tunnen ---

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.
