I'm afraid F.A.A. WWII Squadron codes completely throw me. I can just about understand the Pacific Fleet carrier codes, when they were carried correctly, but the others are totally baffling I'm afraid.

Anyway I'm looking to model an aircraft of 810 Squadron when flying with Coastal Command at the end of WWII. Now at the time she was equipped with Barracuda's and "The Fleet Air Arm Handbook" says that during the war 810 used the codes N6A+ and 2A+. Now I'm assuming the +is an individual aircraft identifier ? So would it have been a letter or number ? And would it have been carried as 2A (Roundel) Individual character ?

Any help gratefully received.

This should help, yes the + next to the letter indicates that letter increase so 2A, 2B, 2L etc, or N6A, N6B, N6P etc

Cheers Geoff.

I looked for photo's of 810 yesterday, and could I find one  :banghead:

Your explanation is perfectly clear  I completely misunderstood the +. I thought it meant the code would be 2A1, 2A2 etc  :banghead: Thanks for putting me right

Gone with 832 Sqd in the end as I had the unit markings in the right size and colour combination. Those I had that could have been used for 810 were to big.

Still I can now understand the text annotations re squadron markings in the book....cheers Geoff
