In the 50's the RAF was in desperate need of a missile equipped all weather fighter to protect against Russian bomber attacks.  The Firestreak program was encountering delays and besides, there were no aircraft in service capable of carrying it yet.  The solution was the Northrop F-89.  The USAF wer in the process of upgrading from D to J models, which entailed removing the wingtip rocket pods and fitting equipment to fire Falcon AAM and Genie nuclear rockets.   A deal was struck to buy 12 aircraft which kept the rocket pods as well as had the missiles.  Designated the F-89K by the US, it became the first of many "K" variants of US aircraft ordered by the UK.
Working in cooperation with Meteor NF.14s the aircraft would patrol and if neccessary hunt down intruder bombers

Yes, you did.  We spoke at the show.  It's my Gloster Rapier.  A Derwent engined Horten, with a Meteor nose.

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Now that's a beauty....love the colours and the demarcation line. What paint/ colours did you use ? Looks nice and dirty like a well-worn fighter should. Love the weapons load as well ! The Rosskies better look out !

A brill idea and superbly done too. The Scorpion loks very natural in that RAF scheme, even more so than in its native USAF NF scheme to my mind.

I'm trying to think what it would look like with Fireflashes enclosed in the MONSTER wingtip pods you'd need to carry them, the pods would be almost the same size as the fuselage!  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Kit

I take the point about Firestreak having problems at the time, but I'd still like to see an F-89 with four of them, almost as much as I'd like to see a CF-100 with them.

Beautifully done. Always loved the Scorpion, brutish and very 50s looking.
