Hello all:

Yesterday I visited the Olomouc Air Museum for their season opening, here's a few pictures of their collection:

Aero XL-29, L-29 Delfin trainer prototype, under restoration at left along with an Mi-4 helicopter and a few others.

Mil Mi-4 "Hound"

Aero engines display

Sukhoi Su-25 "Frogfoot"

Avia Av-14FG which was lying in pieces outside the museum hangar at about the same time last year.

Here's a few general views around the museum's hangar which is, as you can see, in a poor state:

There is hope to be able to restore the hangar at some point in the future as it is of historical significance itself having been used by the Soviet  air force during the Cold War. However, it is also a reminder to us all of how difficult running museums can be financially and bureaucratically.

The staff at the Olomouc Air Museum are a skilled and passionate group who are also involved in restoring aircraft for collections beyond their own and are certainly deserving of support and recognition.

If you'd like to know more about this museum and their activities, here is a link to their official web site. It's in Czech but has a multilingual translator function:

And here's one to their Facebook page. It's all in Czech but has a good number of pictures of museum activities and exhibits:

A Blanik!

The glider in the foreground of the last pic. I've got a few hours flying them, super aircraft.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Very cool!

The Blanik in the Olomouc collection is one of two that was modified for self launching via a small jet engine. Unfortunately, the jet is absent from it now.

I never knew they did that, sounds a great idea. At least the jet wouldn't set fire to or melt the metal fuselage.  ;D

Me too.  You really get the feel of a place that is not pristine, lots of charm- gives you that special feel like you are in on some kind of secret.

Thanks for sharing.
