Wonderfull

There were a couple of WWI aircraft with a mid mounted prop. One of the French ones had the gunner in a pulpit mounted in front of the prop and the pilot sat behind the prop. The prop was exceptionally close to the gunner I seem to remember and looked very, very dangerous.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

...why keep the blunt "radial engine" nose, when a more pointed/streamlined one would work so much better?

From a purely practical PoV perhaps because it's not easy finding a piece of plastic the correct shape and size to stick on there?
I'm looking for a hemisphere approx 20mm in diameter for something but can I find one made of glue & paint friendly plastic?

Not sure if you get them in your part of the world, but here in the UK you can get kiddies' stamper/marker pens that have a 22mm clear dome on top. Havn't tried guing it yet, but it feels like it co-operative plastic. Details on my found ojects thread, reply #41, here: http://www.whatifmodelers.com/index.php/topic,26614.30.html

EDIT: bumped the relevent post up to the top for you.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

At the end of 1918 the Italian bomber attacks Vienna and Navy bases.
Thereupon we developed the Phoenix D. X. In the plans, it was decided to install a pusher propeller to get space for a heavy cannon in the bow. However, the new fighter could be equipped with different weapons. In the normal fighter version, these were two or four standard Schwarzlose 8 mm MG. In this version of the destroyer were one machine gun and a 30 mm Skoda  cannon to ward off the bomber. However, the destroyer version was often used as a ground attack aircraft. My phoenix is a machine of the Navy, stationed in Pula in the summer of 1919.

If you mean the Spad A.2, the prop was not mid-mounted, it was a normal front-engine/tractor propeller
installation. The gunners 'pulpit' was hinged to the landing gear and swung up in front of the prop. It was
not a success.

The US Gallaudet company experimented with mid-mounted pusher prop installations, the D-4 being the most 'successful'. Gallaudet also had a number of unbuilt mid-prop 'Gallaudet Drive' designs.

... and of course the Vickers 161 C.O.W. Gun Fighter that shows Hotte's design is fine.  ;)

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

Das ist ein wirklich interessanter und vor allem klasse umgesetzter WI Umbau...
(This is a really interesting and perfect WI conversion)

Genial wäre nun noch, wenn die rot-weißen Streifen stattdessen in rot-weißen Karos lackiert wären.....da die Kiste in Pula (Kroatien) stationiert war....hätte noch einen Zusammenhang ergeben  ;)
(it would even perfect if the red and white stripes were instead painted in red and white checks ..... because the aircraft was stationed at Pula (Croatia)....would still have a relationship)

Peter
