the types that I was looking at had to be similar to those used by the USAF to support titan II and minuteman ICBM sites
especially for missile crew transport and airlifting in emergency response and security forces teams.

Westland Lynx AH 1?
I always hope for the best.
Unfortunately,
experience has taught me to expect the worst.

Size (of the stash) matters.

That had occured to me as well as the RAF were original going to get them although as a trainer.

'fraid to say that a lynx would probably have too small a main cabin volume to be really useful for my idea of a MRBM site support helo.

Sea Kings. The u/c could be simplified even more so than the HC.4, like Carson uses. They also removed a foot or two of fuselage length to up the lift capability.

Plus Sea Kings are just so cool.....

thank-you captain!  ;D i agree as choppers go the SH-3 in all its variants is uber-cool!

mod'ing the fujimi sea-king to the configuration i'd like is a bit of a problem. so I think there will have to be a 2nd model.

I just think a missile site support sea-king would look even cooler with a large cabin door on both sides. you'd be able to fit a hefty
squad of RAF Regiment guys and a new launch crew in the cabin and still have lift ability for an underslung load.

as it happens I haven't as yet decided on the u/c configuration but I think that the first prototype ought to be minimum change [so
use the floats that come with the kit] maybe the second can get the commando u/c [the dragon sea king AEW2 comes with these
parts as spares]. either way, I is gonna end up with a sea-king fuselage spare and I was toying making that a heavylift helo at some
stage with maple leaf markings and some super power T56 turboprops..... ah! the joys of whiffing!

the RAF F-111K i have on the bench gets its undercart installed shortly. tell me has there ever been an F-111 kit where the u/c doesn't
take less than a week to install? any how as i read in the latest issue of CAM - Combat Aircraft Monthly that 12 sqn are to reform
on the  :tornado: when 2 sqn become a typhoon sqn later this year, it somewhat renders my idea of doing a F-111K in the 12 sqn special scheme that xtradecal did on their 12 sqn history decal sheet a bit premature, i'll be doing this F-111K as an RAF a/c in
operation granby using one of the many RAF  :tornado: schemes that are available from that time. the frontrunners are the two
that used either 'CNN' or 'SKY' however briefly as their tail codes. the agony of choice!  :banghead: the special scheme idea i had can
be done some other time.

another project I have on the bench and is nearing completion is an RAF AC-47K and if I get a lift to the Bolton show later this month
it should be coming with me. its not too different from a USAF vietnam based example but being RAF is based somewhere in the middle
or near east sometime in the 1960's, so gets a modified version of the one of the earliest schemes that RAF C-130Ks wore [i.e. mid
stone and dark earth tops with black undersides and a white cockpit area.] the biggest problem I have with this one is changing the kit
engines to Bristol Hercules [from an aeroclub upgrade set for the beaufighter] and then finding some props, but I think even this one
will solve itself as a search of the spares box has turned up two rotol type three bladed props that seem to fit ok.

these fit my back story for the modifications to the a/c nicely as the serial I will be using for the a/c is ZA948!!!!  ;D  :banghead: ;)

more on this tomorrow perhaps.

Was there a turbo prop conversion for the C-47/DC-3 during that time frame? RR Dart perhaps?

Is this what you are thinking of?

Jolly Green Giant - US by gogada

jolly green giant ch-3 helicopter by backintime3000

USAF Jolly Green Giant has rear loading ramp plus right hand side door with hoist. A bigger side door with one on each side would look cool.

not quite kerick.

I was envisioning a standard SH-3 fuselage with a standard cabin door on both sides rather than the standard one on the starboard side.

I think there are old, old kits for a USAF CH-3 but I've never seen them be them, whatever scale they are in or if they are styrene or resin.

the RAF F-111K has most of the u/c on. its taken at least two days of modelling time without even adding the wheels.  :banghead: the RAF AC-47K is having
its paintwork touched up a bit and the first of the RAF HS-125 ELINT a/c now has most of the decals on as does my Boulton-Paul P111 air-racer.  ;D

Yes, Revell did it in 1/72.

I've got one in The Loft and it's a close relative to the original Airfix Sea King in that it's BURIED in rivets!
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

They're keeping the roof insulation from lifting off and burying my collection of unbuilt kits.  ;D

Captain Canada

I've got one almost finished and 1 or 2 in the stash. Very basic kits but they look pretty good slapped together. I'm sure with a bit of care they could be done up really nice, especially if you used bits from modern Sea King kits and aftermarket bits.

Sounds like you have some interesting projects on the go. Look forward to seeing some pics.

hmm, may post an update on my models tomorrow.

its howling a gale in coventry, tippin it down with rain and trying to snow.

and my bench is at least three miles away.....  :tornado: :tank: :tornado:

i need to eat my all-weather flying lunch.

your menu suggestions are welcome, but please nothing OTT!  ;D

I also now need to find one of those RoG CH-3 kits. one of those in RAF SAR yellow would look different.

and no, i'm NOT bidding on flea-bay or nowt.
