Wonderfest is a Sci-fi/Horror model contest held in Louisville, Kentucky.  This year was the 25th anniversary. Think lots of spaceships, Monsters and more.

Ran into Tom Grossman of Tag Team Hobbies who is an Iwata distributor there on Friday and got him to let me help him set up the booth.  He had 7 other guys already but they say I was helpful.  Tom gave me a Dealer's pass for helping throughout the show and that got me in to all kinds of fun.  Spent way too much money but got some really neat stuff.  Now really have to get my airbrush up and running so I can practice on my flesh tones.

Some really excellent stuff in there, and quite surprising to see some RW stuff in amongst all that exotica.

Cheers Phil,

We-ell, I've looked through the pic's & I've got to say the quality of the builds was right up there!

Below is a list of those which particularly caught my eye (pic number in brackets):

Old Pop-Eye (#1)
Hot Hitchhiker (#190)
Sci-Fi Tank (#200)
PR19_Kit / Indiana Jones (#270)
Zombietle (#366)
Ma.K Falke (#440)
Girl with ATGM (#530)

The entire X-rated section near the end was quite ... interesting.

yes that "Special Interest group" part of Wonderfest is quite... interesting, and a bit of an eye opener.  :o
Last year there was even a model banned from entering... now that WAS a cracker !!!

The last pics are from the NRA contest (Naked Resin Attack).  These are kits deemed inappropriate for a family oriented show.  However, painting of flesh tones is one of the major undertakings in garage kit builds and young ladies in distress or no dress are extremely popular.  So, a special "contest" is held in a back room and not advertised on the program.  That didn't keep people from entering (39 entries not counting the 2 banned kits) or stopping by to see and vote.  Popular vote with 4 categories this year and there were 60 people who cast a vote and a lot more who just came in and looked.

There were 2 banned kits this year (last year there was one) because they depicted something that should just be kept behind closed doors (the organizers words).  It seems last years ban prompted a few people to see how far they could push the limits regarding the very few actual rules.  I am sure you can figure out which 2 were disallowed this year.

It is all done in fun with the awards provided by The Connoiseurs of the Biological Arts and Jimmy Flintstone among others.

Some may get offended but it is art and I have seen some much worse nose art, ok, maybe not worse than a couple of these but still.

Art is in the eye of the beholder and I personally have no problem with viewing paintings of nudes in some of the great galleries in the world so there is nothing wrong with models of nudes as long as the appropriate steps are taken to "protect the innocent"  and to stop people just trying to see how far they can go for the sheer hell of it, and we all know some of those. Both of these steps were taken here, so well done to the organisers

Besides the painting of flesh tones is one of the most difficult of figure painting skills in my view

The Superman model, breaking the chains, painted to look like the comic.
In want of hobby space!  The kitchen table is never stable.  Still managing to get some building done.

Nice to see the USS Sulacco from Aliens coming back out, and that they are doing a revised Space 1999 eagle with the boosters and the specialist pod .

I've got no problem with it at all. I would suggest it would have to get pretty extreme (& not in a nice way) for me to actually be offended. Sex & biology are pretty amusing, when you get old enough to understand what's going on, even when you're involved in them.

No, I was more surprised that the category existed & I commend the organisers for having it. I would have voted, the work that went into the models deserves to be taken as seriously as any other category (kinda like "what if"'s, actually).

Girl airbrushing the dragon #57 - well cool. ;D

Godzilla and Frigate (#492) is the one I found on the web yesterday and posted on the Whiffs You Have Found board.

Victorian flying machine (#574 & #575)

Thanks Phil.  Some mad skills there.

#214 - colour scheme for the pig tank.  How about something like this (the german words are the names of the cuts of meat)

#253 - superman - how good did it look from different angles?

#622 - Borg Cube made of sprue - inspired!

Naked resin - nothing too shocking there.  Personally i'd find a diorama modelling Auschwitz or Dachau more offensive.  Interesting lack of any eroticised male figures in there - shows the gender/preference mix of the modellers I guess.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

#253 Superman looked good from the angles I looked at it.  He also did the Betty Page in the NRA and on that one if you looked down from the top there were thick black stripes.  But when you got level, they looked like outlines drawn on and colored in.

#622 this was one of the entries in Iron Modeler. Basically 3 people get together with a pile of bits and a secret kit and have 4 hours to plan, build and paint.  I did it last year and it is pretty fun.
