You're not kidding! He put on a one man display at Boscombe Down once with 104 x F-104s! The guy's Starfighter mad.

I saw a display of 1/72 Lightnings like that once, loads of them. The builder was none too pleased when I pointed out that one or two of the the old Airfix kit which he had put a lot of care and attention into had the exhausts part upside down.  :banghead: Also found a problem with a 1/48 Do 217 which had the side gun mountings protrude from the cockpit when rather baffling in real life they were recessed into the cockpit.  And no I am not a JMN but an error on a r/w is an error when its something like the above.

I know it's in a book I have around here somewhere....

You can never have too many Lightnings!! One of my forthcoming (probably winter - so, that'll be July onwards!!) projects will be a single engined Lightning. I'm going to (TRY TO!) combine the fuselage/tail of the Esci 1/48 Sukhoi SU-7 with the wings/belly tank/undercarriage/cockpit of the Airfix F2A/F6. I want to use over wing launchers for a pair of Radar guided BFMs (Big F****** Missiles) and wing tip/underwing launchers for 2 - 4 Red Top AAMs.

Model will feature full width nose radome with side intakes a la Sukhoi T-49! :o I must be daft..................................!!!!!

I've started real work, as opposed to taking the sprues out and going 'Cor, wow' etc, on Airfix's new-ish Lightning F2A, and what a pleasure it is to work on!

The bits fit, it looks good, it's not a pain to assemble and I'm wholly impressed. My only niggle is I'm pretty sure it'll be a tail sitter unless I add more than their recommended 4 grms to the nose. I've stuffed the AIRPASS radar with fishing shot and it's still not heavy enough. Luckily there's lots of space around the intake ducts etc.

Of course I'll have to add even more to compensate for the longer wings...........  ;)
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

Not if you give her cranked W style wings
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Hehehe, you never know.  ;D

Actually I take back what I said about the nose weight, when I did a 'tape up' of all the bits the lead radome works just fine. I didn't take into account that the main wheels are a LONG way back along the span of that very swept wing.
