Torchwood

Hello to all,
Id firstly like to introduce myself, as Torchwood. My real name is Andy in case you want to be formal ;) it's an honour to be part of this wonderful family, ive been checking out posts for years. I havent got the equipment to build hugely detailed models, ive only got the basic kit.

Speaking of kit, ive got the following:

Airfix 1/76 Folland Gnat (from the 70s, wayyyy before i stalked the earth) i got it for 1p on Amazon
Revell Aerospatiale Puma (small scale, not 100% sure)
Airfix DHC Chipmunk (again, not sure of scale (sorry))
Airfix Hawker Hurricane

Ive got limited resources, like limited decals, but i can buy paints easily. Unless i get an airbrush (early xmas present perhaps), everything is hand painted. Ill try and post images as much as possible too for updates.

So, taking those into account, id like your opinions on what schemes to do for each aircraft. Progress wony be rapid as im not the fastest, and im probably going to build the Gnat first. So, thank you all, and let me know any ideas, backstories and schemes you think would be good. Thanks everyone :)
To conform is to be boring. Thats why i do whatever the hell i want with colour schemes ;)

Thats exactley what ive been thinking, i might steal the hardpoints from a Sabre and add tanks from that. The airfix kit had two Sidewinders in too, i might add those on the hardpoints, or make wingtip pylons. I'll google that build too, thanks for the feedback :)

Exactly* i sometimes spell check myself aha

i checked out Rosenberg's Gnat, and its stunning. Im planning a back story as we speak aha, possibly a maritime-attack/strike aircraft with a low level sea camo (like Rosenberg's), with rocket pods and two fuel tanks, and sidewinders for self defense. What dyall think? Itll be RAF, but i think itll be a fun build.

Need advice for a decent primer that i can use, as the kit is Red Arrows Red on the sprues.

Wellcome aboard Andy, used to really like Torchwood on TV

As for primer ? If in the UK then good old Halfords grey aerosol primer is the thing to use
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Torchwood

Thanks for the welcome guys ;) love Torchwood tbh

and thats a good idea i never thought of that... The first model i built was an Iranian AF F-5, and with just basic Gloss it looked, well, pretty bad. So thanks for the suggestion, think a trip to Halfords is in order.

As for the scheme, im liking greys and blues, kinda wanting a maritime scheme.

Yeah i know what you mean, i started building a Defiant in those colours and was gonna add a tail hook, ya know, a replacement for the Skua (ideas out there for the taking guys)

PR19_Kit

That'd be Extra Dark Sea Grey (ESDG) and Sky.  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

Torchwood

Bingo, those are the colours! Always thought a Jaguar would suit that scheme, dont know why...

Im totally open to all suggestions for maritime scheme, im 100% doing maritime :D

Hi Andy

Try the Hobby and Model centre on Hulton Lane off Wigan Road as they are a good source of model tolls, paints, etc, although their model kits are actually upstairs.

Halfords primer is good although you can get the Tamiya and Humbrol primers from Bolton Model Mart or Hobbycraft.

You basically need to put your own photos on Photobucket or something similar and then link using the insert image icon when doing your post

Welcome on board btw.

Cheers

Thanks Geoff, youre a life saver! Probably gonna pop down to Bolton after college one day and pick up some primer, dk which yet, depends on whether or not my wallets being kind
