Came across these two earlier today, may be worth reading.

First one talks about CVA-01 vis-a-vis the current HMS Queen Elizabeth and the second asks does ANYone need carriers at all....

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Nice to see the CVA-01 mentioned the other article is from 2 years ago and the usual lefty liberal crap that infests the BBC these days.

Its all to do with the first of the QEC's HMS Queen Elizabeth is due to be named tomorrow by the Queen.

The actual float out (she's been assembled in a dry dock) is due some days later as they will flood up and check the ballast and buoyancy before floating her out of the dock. She'll then be fitted out and completed alongside the dock over the next 18 months or so.

The first major blocks for HMS Prince of Wales will be completed and shipped to Rosyth in the next few weeks, so final assembly of the 2nd ship will start in the coming months. This process should be somewhat more efficient than QNLZ as they have adjusted the assembly schedule so the blocks have been built in the order they are assembled in the dock, so they won't be waiting on bits to be built and shipped, plus the design and fitting out has been refined so the assembly of PWLS should be somewhat shorter.

Why can't they have 'proper' Carrier names like Eagle, Ark Royal, invincible etc?

The British have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved". Soon though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross". Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the Blitz in 1940 when tea supplies ran out for three weeks

They have been named in Honour of the Queen, the sad part is that it took to the Golden Jubilee to create a capital ship programme worthy of the honour. The CVA-01 was dragged out of the 50s programme to replace the wartime carrier designs with a new modern jet age carrier, and since that was canned we have been cutting back. The Invincible's were original cruiser sized ASW escorts and got the battlecruiser name and through deck cruiser designation to avoid the Aircraft Carrier association when the RN carrier fleet was being culled.

The names are fine and have saved both ships so far, because otherwise with traditional carrier names, the politicians would have found it as easy to cancel them or sell them on as they did to scrap the likes or Ark Royal (twice!!!) and Invincible. Its a brave minister that asks his PM to notify the Queen that they are selling on or scrapping either the ship named in her honour or after her heir without a very justifiable reason, as it would be political suicide.

Sensible. Check it floats rather the embarrass H.M. the Queen with glug, glug......and yes it has happened. A couple of times on Wearside at least. Although one of the two better known ones was sabotage by a recently sacked employee

So, all this talk about CVA-01, I decided to add her to my Asiarama, in the Other Stuff section

Currently a WIP, mounting the CGSN Mk2 island, and Austrian 7 (6 showing) color lozenge pattern (which I think she looks rather good in)

And full credit will be given to the originial creators of both versions of CVA-01 used in production

No, No, No.
I totally agree with that, as she should christened with a good BRITISH drink while she is being built in a BRITISH port, and may she serve BRITAIN loyally for many years to come.

Well said sir, but wouldn't a bottle of Gin be better suited to the R.N. with a serving of Bitters on the side of course ?

A bottle of rum would have been better.

Wouldn't they have then needed a cat o' nine tails, with some gay sailors?
