While... searching with Google, I found https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macross
explaining this is a famous Japanese science-fiction TV cartoon occurring on Earth with atmosphere (so aircraft more than spacecraft), started in 1982, all right.

The inspiration is the VT-1 of Macross, a science-fiction anime mainly in Earth atmosphere so with aircraft more than spacecraft.
