I also love the Sea Hurricane  ... Does that fit with the theory?

Yup

Just noticed, but the canopy is all wrong for an RCAF Chipmunk  ----   :banghead:

Real life whif. Lots of warbirds tend to sport the plumage of other aircraft/marks to commemorate something, maybe that's what this one is doing?

The mustang also was doing something unusual during the display. Can anyone spot it?

Lowered it's tail wheel   :-\

One pic it has it retracted but all the others it's extended.

Perhaps it was trying to look like a shiny Hurricane?  ;D
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage

I think it had an issue with the tail wheel. It didn't seem to want to lock up. Pilot pulled out of the display and cycled the landing gear. It seemed to do the trick but after a few more passes it had dropped down again.

I'd guess there was a hydraulics issue with the Mustang's tail wheel, they were designed to drop down when pressure was lost (main gear had to be pumped down, or you hoped it dropped into place when "gear down" was selected for full loss of hydraulics).

Remember seeing some footage (many, many years ago) of a Mustang coming in to land after escorting a bombing raid & as it approached you saw it dip & kick up again several times. Must have worked because it landed on its wheels but the aft fuselage was covered in hydraulic fluid.

I was in front of my car a little right of the tower.

I think it's an ongoing problem, there were some photos a few weeks ago I saw on a forum that had a Mustang flying with it's tail wheel down. I can't say for sure it's the same aircraft though, 'cause I can't find the pic right now.

Captain Canada

Thunder Over Michigan was phenomenal this year ! 7 Mustangs, 11 Corsair. Plua 2 B-25s, a B-17, plus a range of newer stuff. One of the highlights was also the Cobra and Huey rides. I didn't go on one, but watching and hearing them all day was a treat enough !

I was there!  Dang, we should have met up.  Great shots, and yes, it was amazing.  Nice little museum, a slew of Corsairs, good show.
