Props for a Spearfish

Hey all!

I just picked up a Magna Models Spearfish, still sealed in its factory stapled bag, and found it wanting of propellers.  That and one of its resin landing gear doors.

Anyone here know the contact info for Magna?  I've looked online but those cites only go to resellers and not the company itself.

Failing that, what's a good source for the Rotols the Spearfish used?

Thanks,

Madoc

Sea Fury spinner should do with possibly Typhoon blades, although I doubt they'd be big enough.  It's a beast of a prop. Possibly B29 prop blades reshaped?

Thanks for the tip, message sent.

I was rather surprised at their lacking.

The kit was still in its factory stapled bag and the bag itself was still sound.  Most of the Magna kits I've picked up suffer from bags in which the kit pieces - usually the tail of the fuselages - have pierced through the seams of the bag.  Usually, there's no harm done as the smaller bits are in their own bag within the larger bag.

In this case, the main bag was still intact.  I think that this one just happened to have gone out the Magna Models Massive Modeling Factory™ missing these particular bits.  I can most likely bodge the one missing landing gear door.  It's small enough and simple enough that some plasticard work would do.  The props?  Nope, not a chance.  And yeah, those big Rotol's are beasts.

Then again, so too is the Spearfish itself.  Gotta love those immediate post-war FAA birds that the various outfits came up with.  Some of them were truly stellar - the Seafury, for instance.  The others?  Well... not so much!  Which only makes them that much more appealing!

Having just built it all I can say is "it's fun"  ;D Nah seriously just need to take your time and make sure you have filler in stock, I enjoyed the project.

Not sure about a replacement prop as it's a big one. Must admit I wondered about a contra prop myself
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

If all else fails, you could try and find an Aeroclub Sea Fury replacement prop --

Don't worry about this pic showing it having the wrong pitch, I had modified it so I could make a contra-prop like this ---  ;D

I'd have suggested that but it's too small.

Possibly B29 prop blades reshaped?

I wouldn't use the B-29 props, they turn in the opposite direction to the Spearfish prop.  But some blades from a Bristol Freighter would work though --
