Yup its me again and this one is ,,well kinda nuts and there is only really one person to blame ,,Guy ( Old Wombat) ,,his High Mobility Battlefield Logistics Transport vehicle is brilliant and it got me thinking ,,if you've got a machine to supply items to the battle field then why not have something to supply things too .
Guys vehicle would be perfect to supply ammo to drop off points for pickup so the Stryker SPG was born .
I went through my pile and easily found 2 Strykers ,,fact i found 8 of them ..didnt even know i had that many  ;D
Then i had to let the brain go to work and there's where all the trouble started lol ,,be warned there is a lot of pics on the one
First off getting the lay out right ,twin tires all round ,,

Gun mount ,,cranes for ammo haulage and loading ,,rebuilding the gun itself and the gun mount, hydraulic rams for stabilizing the main gun so here's pics of those bits . as you can  see there was alot of cutting and redesigning the sides and rear ends of the Strykers to mount the cranes ..the first one is the ammo loading crane to load the front vehicle and was nicked off a HEMTT ,,well most of it was ,,it was a parts kit i got off a mate so i had to make a few little bits for it ,,the rear crane which load the main gun was nicked from a Academy Israeli M113 ARV and modified ,,it had to be longer and have new rams fitted and the end result is quite pleasing ,,for the moment

One fully rebuilt M110 gun mount which aint finished yet  and 8 inch gun with auto loader ..

Now that was the first idea for the auto loader frame work but i wasnt happy with that at all so i tore it off and rebuilt the entire thing ..new breach block,,loading system,, everything

All it needs now is a heap of tubing for the hydraulics and electrical and a little bit more detail work ..
Mounting the gun mount was easy but still took a heap of work to be able to mount it ..

Next was by far the hardest part of the built... the steering system ,,the system is used on several machines like the British Viking and Russian DT-30 Vityaz so i had to build something as close as possible and man this was one hell of a mission ..first off i had to come up with an idea for the drive tube ..this system not only steers the rear part of the vehicles but drives it to.
It all starts with a recoiless barrel from something old and crap which gives ya some idea that i havent a clue about the kit anymore but it gave me what i needed to start.
The following pics gives ya an idea of what went into building it,,,

And after a lot of work and one redesign this is the end result..again all it needs now is a little cleaning up and a heap of tubing ..and yes it fully works.

It was built using tank road wheels,a bracelet and hydraulic rams from another dead HEMTT truck ,,some home made brass mounts and brass pins.
Here it all is as it sits right now ..

Oh its now got a new engine cover to ,,, instead of one little engine its now got one big one

More to follow guys ,,,

Phill

WOW! That is astounding! Great work all around. This machine will be knock your socks off when its painted!

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

buzzbomb

Terrific work.. great eye for detail and engineering

Old Wombat

I'm to blame for this?

Can't say I feel bad about that! ;D

Wow! Awesome, as usual! Bloody awesome, in fact!

Guess I'd better get cracking, when I get back home, & get the HMBLT finished, then! :-\

Wow, crazy, that's one hell of a gun! :drink:
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

PS: I bailed on this;

Which is why I went with this;

It hides all of that ... complexity ... which is wa-ay beyond me.

Makes your build all the more impressive, dude!

Thanks guys ,,kind comments in all and ya this has turned into a monster ,,
Old Wombat .. Guy mate theres nothing  wrong with your work on the steering system ,, its thing like that which keeps me going more mental each day ,,i really do myself no favors at all  ;D.
Fact yours would work mainly cause this thing of mine is built for very high speed over rough ground so it needs to be meaty and mine looks that part i think ..yours works perfectly for yours mate

I hope that thing's got a BIG hydraulic pump to power all those rams on the steering joint!

Kit mate cause i am a retired engineer i do think if these things  and i have done a lot of work with earth movers, bulldozers, back hoes and the like and one thing was of course work on the  hydraulic pumps ,,now a days the pumps are quite small compared to the years past ,,i drove the Komatsu PC1200 for quite a while ..this is a 125 ton machine yet the pump is smaller than a 4 cylinder car engine ...small size ..high output ,,gotta love that

I too am a retired engineer, and spent much of my life in hydraulics too, which is why the pic of the centre joint caught my eye. How many gallons/minute do you reckon it'd take to run an 'active' joint like that 100% of the time?

I feel sorry for the b*stard that has to maintain it and the schlub who has to do the Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) on it.

But, it is Whiff world, so anything goes.  Like a small, powerful computer driven pump system driving some sort of exotic, buckyball-based fluid.
