Manchester model shops news

Okay, various things:

1. Phoenix Models has opened, just around the corner from the old Modelzone premises on Deansgate, which is appropriate, since I understand it's been set up by former Modelzone staff. They've not been open long (the shop still has the chip-shop signs of the former owners on it... ;D) and the selection looks like ex-Modelzone stock that they bought after the final, final, final sale. They don't have a working website, but they do have a facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/phoenixmodelsmanchester

2. The Ian Allan bookshop on Piccadilly station approach is now selling a small range of models. They've had a railways modelling department upstairs for a while, but there are now aircraft, armour and ship models too. Some unusual brands as well: first time I've seen a GWH 1/144th TSR.2 in a shop...

3. Fred Aldous, one of the oldest craft shops in Manchester, started selling Airfix models a few years ago, but I've just been in today and found that they've re-vamped the shop again, and cut the range right back. It's still a great place for general craft supplies though.

Not sure but I think it's in the premises of the ioriginal Bootle Street Model Shop.  If not then just being on Bootle Street puts it in the spiritual home of Manchester Modellers.

I remember the Deansgate model shop before it was Modelzone, but I don't remember it being anywhere else but the same premises on the corner of Deansgate and Bootle Street. The "new" place is entirely on Bootle Street, but literally next door to the old one.

Of course in those days a model-buying trip to town had two major destinations, the other one being Beatties just off Market Street.....
