Doesn't the old Airfix F-4D have loads of pylons and stuff? I seem to recall there were far too many to put on the kit all at once.

The old Airfix kit tries to be many things to everyone in one box and as it's a 60's moulding its not to the same level of detail as the more modern kits I am using in this build. Good idea though.

Maybe its a good job that I have not revived my other Phantom build as things look as if they are getting a little confusing

After looking at the list of weapons carried by the F-4 I did get the designation for one of the buckets of instant sunshine wrong. Anyway I have gone off that idea so I will probably settle for just the under-wing fuel tanks and the rocket pods on the inner wing pylons. That does not mean I would not be happy to receive knowledge about or the actual pylons to replace fuel tanks as I have other builds that they would be most useful on.

Masked the canopy and air intakes this evening with the hope of nice weather tomorrow so I can use white primer to paint the undercarriage bays, doors and wheel hubs so this build has not hit the buffers yet.....

Oh the vagaries of using a spray can!  :banghead: It does not help when the can is starting to become empty so coverage was not as good as it could have been. Oh well have to use something else  :banghead:

Second coat of Light Aircraft Grey on the undersides, it's going to need a third as where some of the white over-spray is bleeding through  :banghead: Hopefully on course for it's first public outing at Glasgow later this month.

What should be the final coat of Light Aircraft Grey has been applied so hopefully tomorrow I will manage to apply masking tape for the demarcation line so that the Dark Sea Grey can be applied.

Actually managed to do what I said I would. First coat of Dark Sea Grey has been applied. I also think my painting technique is improving on the canopy as well. Its not perfect but it is just a hairy stick paint and a magnifying glass.

And this is how she looks at the moment...

Its a little patchy at the moment but should be a good solid colour by this time tomorrow so by mid week I will have the green part of its camouflage on.

Second coat of the Dark Sea Grey is on, she no longer looks patchy, just a uniform very dark grey.

Realised that this particular kit has separate flaps, and guess who forgot to paint the upper surfaces of them  :banghead: :banghead:

Picture progress for this build

That's the camouflage done. Next is the nose and the M61 baffle to be painted, both in black but both to be different blacks. Once that is done it will be time to do the metal parts which I am not particularly looking forward to so any tips and help on that will be appreciated.

Oh yeah....now we're talking ! I'm no help re: the metal buts, but I'll gladly take any tips myself !
