Boeing did a design study on a  "flying flapjack" similar to the Vought V173/XF5U.
I'll let the article do the rest of the talking, because it sounds a lot more intelligent that I.

90, 391 1943 - STOL "Flying Flapjack" single-seat fighter designed around a long-chord, very low-aspect ratio wing, similar to Vought's V173/XF5U-1, but with a single engine driving a six-blade, counter-rotating prop. The design, with its well-forward cockpit (also similar to XF5U-1), was planned to solve the problem of pilot vision over the nose in carrier landings (the reason F4U Corsair was initially rejected for carrier duty). The 390 was to have a centrally-located P&W R-3350 and a designed speed of 425 mph while the 391 would mount an 3000hp R-4360 for 452 mph. None built.

And here is an artist conception:

Are you sure that is Unicraft? It looks far too neat and tidy to be one of theirs.

They are just physical manifestations of collisions between enigma & conundrum particles.

Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

While I'm engaged in drawing  up a set of plans of the Sanka mk2, basing the design on the Kyushu Shinden(they are a very near match, except for a few points), because I have a twin motor with coax shafts to drive a couple props, this Boeing design looks pretty interesting, and would most likely be even smaller than the Sanka model(30" span).

Making me consider some more ideas, and few of them ground bound.
