There were serious plans to build a "Jet Sturgeon". While looking for info, I cama cross this...

More about the paper aircraft here: http://davidg-flatoutart.blogspot.de/2012/06/short-jet-sturgeon.html

And then there's this whif-of-a-whif:

Hypothetical markings for a Sturgeon NF.II of 1782 NAS, serving with the British Pacific Fleet and shore-based at Manus in August 1946 for defence of the fleet anchorage at Seeadler Harbour against night-raiders.

That Jet Sturgeon looks quite good, do something with the rear canopy and it would look very good
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Almost a jet-Beaufighter, if you squint a bit. Much better than the real Sturgeon in any case...
Some of my models can be found on my Flickr album >>>HERE<<<

Also found this... leaves a lot of questions, but the concept has some appeal?

And do you know what might be impressive? Is to see a jet version of the B-29 Super Fortress. ;)

OK, technically it's a jet Tu-4, but how about this? Although I've no idea where the undercarriage is supposed to go - - -

B-47 style bicycle with outriggers?

It looks like it's about to be Bomarc'd into oblivion!  :o
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

I figured a jet P-38 would have the jet in the central nacelle.

Like this?. "Lockheed P-88 Starligt":

Ah!, here the mixed powered version (with swept back wings) of the P-51:

I believe that would be an Ilyushin Il-22, not a jet Tu-4. The landing gear of the Il-22 retracted into the fuselage.

An interesting point  I hadn't considered that interpretation because it's clearly meant to be a high altitude strategic bomber whereas the Il-22 was a tactical bomber - could clearly have used a bit of lateral thinking there

For what it's worth, I think that the proportions are wrong for an Il-22 which was fairly chunky and didn't have a ventral turret or engines mounted on pylons. On the other hand, the basic shape of the Il-22 is there and the fin and tail planes are exactly right although the gunner's position is more like a Tu-4, not projecting aft of the fin as on the Il-22.

Essentially, it's a 1950s (late 1940s?) US concept of a Soviet jet bomber based on who knows what information and appears to be a bit of a blend of Tu-4 and Il-22.

I posted it because it seemed to be an interesting take on what a jet powered B-29 might look like but, hey, this is whiff-world - - -

Sticking with the B-29 theme, I like the idea of the B-47 bicycle arrangement - it would be a feasible modification for a B-29 and Tupolev actually built a bicycle Tu-4 as a test machine for the layout proposed for the Myasishchyev "Bison".

I like to see a jet powered B-25 Mitchel bomber

Boeing, or somebody anyway, tested the bicycle gear idea with a B-26 at first, resulting in this :-
