Have to agree re n.m.f. and brush, that's why I tend to avoid aircraft in that finish.

Coincidental I found some old tins of Humbrol enamel Metalcoat the other day. Forgot how good they are to use

It's the only "zwilling" concept I've seen that really gel's for me.

Well we've got some family visiting for the summer, Mrs kitnut's brother's two girls. They're from the Dominican Republic and it's their first time out of their country. So we've been showing them as much of the area as we can on any of our days off from work.

But I had managed to get something done before I put it on hold for a short while.

Started painting up the cockpit and aircrew, tidied up some of the other paintwork, made a start on the u/c bay doors. I also found that the decals I got for a Sabre needed some modifications. The white/red triangle nose band was too short and the wrong profile. So I drew what I needed in my AutoCAD and then asked Bill the owner of CanMilAir if he could print them for me, which he kindly did. Here's a pic of the decal sheet plus the extra nose band decals

And, here's a couple of more up to date pics to view. The cockpit hasn't been finished but I was trying out a new very fine brush to see what results I could get. So far things are working well

A top view showing everything extended

And a couple of posed pics

I've also discovered something really bazaar, in my backstory I'm saying that the Twin Sabre preceded the CF-100 into service and my plan is to take some pics of the finished model next to a CF-100. But not just any CF-100, I will build a CF-100 Mk.3. I found a fairly decent side view drawing but was stumped when it came to a top view of one. Carl (the big gimper) very kindly scanned some views from one of his reference books and after examining the pics I suddenly realized that the wing of a CF-100 Mk.3 looked very familiar. It looks like a Mustang wing --- specifically it looks a lot like a Twin Mustang wing --- only bigger!  I'm going to scratch some wingtips for the CF-100 wing and then take a pic showing what I mean.  I'm also suspecting the tailplane looks a bit like an FJ-1 tailplane too.

Thanks guys ---

Basically the idea is a jet powered Twin Mustang, nothing too dramatic and trying to keep it simple. From reading up on the various aircraft versions (F-82 and FJ-1), found they both had a reluctance to leave the ground so the idea came about to use extendable slats and flaps (both technologies available at the time) so not stretching the imagination too much --- I hope --  ;D

I've recently come across an interesting snippet of information, I read that the F-82 had "slotted flaps", so Fowler flaps isn't taking it into the extreme. And the slats were a Handley Page design before the war anyway --

Those slats REALLY make it Robert, a very nice touch.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

They are the Siga kits Todd.  IMHO, not a good choice because one side does not match the other, that's from the center fuselage joint outwards, they're quite different when they should be symmetrical.

If I was to do it again I'd probable pick up a pair of Valom kits instead --- I had one in the stash and as Jim (jaybe) had very kindly supplied another Siga kit so I could do the build, I couldn't just bin them. So I had to do quite a bit of 'lining-up' of parts and lots of sanding to get the two sides (and I mean the two sides to each individual fuselage) to match each other and look right.

Cheers for that. I think I saw some on the West Coast Hobbies site so may order one.

Ever since the end of the GB, my project sort of has been to sleep.

Every now and then though, I'll go back to it and do a little bit. So far I've got the cockpit all done and painted, the canopies are glued on and all the undercarriage and wheel bays are all glued and painted. The drop tanks, radar pod and missile rails are also glued on but the wingtip tanks I've made so I can have them on or off. Started the final round of the main painting too.

I've trial fitted the decals which dictate where the anti-glare panels come down to but it's a work in progress at the moment.

So here's some up to date pics of where I am now with it.

Moderator, this really could be moved back into the 'current and finished projects' page please.
