...And some Matchbox too (but note that Heyford, Stranraer and Wellesley abuse are crimes).

Oooops...

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

having had another look at my MiG I thought what the hell and have decided to press on   will show you once it's completed   I think the rust liquid should have been applied over acrylic, cause it dissolved some of the enamel   this surprised me no end as I thought it was a benign liquid  but no

That's part of the learning curve I guess.....but I guess if it's a rusty old bird, it won't much matter !

I think I have some North Korean decals lying around so might use those    a rusty MIG in those markings won't look so odd

in a way this kit is representative of the Soviet and communist systems in that the actual plane provided to the military was pretty good and worked well, but the consumers, that is to say modellers, were treated like rubbish and had to put up with completely substandard, compared to what we are enjoying in the west, consumer products like this crappy kit

Actually I'm not sure the KP Mig 21 was that bad at the time it was first produced, as there was very little competition.

While I admit the 21 isn't my favourite aeroplane, and it's got ZILLIONS of different variations, but I think the KP one was the only model of that variant at the time, the others being a more basic version, the Airfix kit being one of them. I was doing reviews for Scale Models at the time, late 70s I think, and they offered it to me for review but turned it down on the basis that I didn't know enough about the real thing.
Kit's Rule 1 ) Any aircraft can be improved by fitting longer wings, and/or a longer fuselage
Kit's Rule 2) The backstory can always be changed to suit the model

...and I'm not a closeted 'Take That' fan, I'm a REAL fan! :)

Regards
Kit

the plastic is rubbish, the decals are rubbish and the instructions are printed on the cheapest possible rubbishy paper---the Soviet system personified
but I pressed on and here is the result in Esci North Korean markings, which shredded a bit, but an the whole worked out okay as the markings look just as worn as the plane

sorry, Photobucket seems to be playing up--can't copy the snaps like I could before

Here you go Al.

It's an interesting finish.  Looks like a surface bloom of corrosion before any serious problems have developed.
Crappy kit or not it looks like you got it to go together OK.

thanks zenrat, how did you do that!?  I've got a little more rust to apply and perhaps some matt varnish as well

zenrat

No worries.
If you use the Reply or Preview buttons instead of typing into the quick reply box you get an insert image button (second row of buttons second from the left, under the ITALIC button).
Clicking that puts some code into the text box with the cursor in the middle between a close-square-bracket and an open-square-bracket.  Paste your image URL into the code where the cursor is and it should appear as a picture in the thread.

If that was just the "rust" colour then it would like a bronze presentation model given to the designer or test pilot IMHO.
Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

I would be unable to make something like that, congratulations...
