Is it not a matter of personal choice whether one chooses
to detail a cockpit? So how can anyone declare that those
who choose to do so are incorrect or wasting their time?
Seems that some folk are as bad as the JMNs they
constantly, and boringly, rail about. Gets pretty depressing.

Of course it's a matter of personal choice, and as far as I can see not one post on this thread has actually commented on whether one should or should not do so.

The last few posts have been commenting on the way other people, those who VIEW our models, are critical of cockpit cockpit detail or lack of it..............

I think its a case of its your model, we appreciate the work when its done, but were not judgmental when its not as we all know doing such an exercise can often leave the remains of the model stuck to the wall where it was hurled at whilst the modeller is then left a gibbering wreck hunched up in the other corner of the room cursing the kit creators as the spawn of evil   .

Agreed. lol. I cringed just looking at all the bits, that's why I threw them in the spares box ;-) Mind you, if I do my second T. bird with the canopy open, I may be glad I have a second set of brass laying about.

It may be too late, I spent the whole of the recent weekend at the model railway equivalent of SMW and never stopped talking to the Joe Publics for the whole 2 days! I'm croaking well at the moment, needless to say.

It is a matter of personal choice, and I've chosen to do it sometimes (my recent Skyvan for example). My original post was in reference to Kit's post expressing frustration with the fiddly, highly detailed cockpit that came with his Harrier as standard. You sometimes get the impression that the kit manufacturers and aftermarket people are trying to show off what they can do, rather than sell you anything that gets you a realistic pay-off for your efforts.

I've only got two Sword kits, the Harrier T2 I'm making G-VTOL from, and a Lightning T4. BOTH of them have that sort of cockpit, ie. a very simple plastic basis but with oodles of PE overlayed to provide the detail.

Are they ALL like that, 'cos if so I'll need to be very sure I want the model before I buy another one?

To each his (or her, thank you Reg) own.
I think one finds a level of detail one is comfortable with.  I have built cars in 1/25 with engine detail including plug wires, throttle return springs and fuel lines.  I even built a Funny car with a fully plumbed nitrous system but generally now I just wire the plugs.
I do always try to get the firing order correct though...
