WW2 depth charges in 1:72nd scale?

I'm looking at whiffing up an IL-2 for carrier ops with an anti-sub loadout.

I just need to source some suitable depth charges. I know that there's some resin kits out there (http://inscale.org/public/?p=1086 and http://www.hyperscale.com/2014/reviews/accessories/redroorrr72154reviewmd_1.htm), but I'd prefer not to go down the resin route (I have a bad habit of snapping and cracking things in the wrong places).

Are there any worthwhile plane kits in 1:72nd scale to act as depth charge donors? The depth charges don't need to be Soviet, they just need to look the part.

Whatever.

I'm not up on 1/72 (being more into 1/48) but check out modern Russian a/c kits with FAB-100 or FAB-250 bombs. In a whiff world they're very depth-chargey in appearance.

Captain Canada

Cut the tips off the small bombs that come with the old Airfix Lanc and Hallifax and fill in the void. Close enough for me !

The Airfix/Heller Sea King has some included, but they may be a bit modern for your time frame.

The Airfix Catalina appears to have depth charges under the wings.

Yes, it does

Also the 1/72 Hobbycraft Tu-16 kit I have has numerous bombs of various sizes which could pass for depth charges

Old Wombat

If they only have to look the part, what about cutting the tails off some bombs & gluing them onto some appropriate diameter styrene tube, then capping the tube with bits of table-tennis ball?

That should give you a reasonable generic aerial type depth-charge/bomb.

Lots of ideas. Thanks for those.

Which got me looking through the spares boxes and I've found some awful looking bombs whose noses are somewhat blunt (and whose tails could be modified to accept the circular tail bit from another kit's bombs. They could end up looking something like this:

Another option are some rather blunt Soviet bombs.

I'll have a play.
Whatever.

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Those Red Roo guys do some interesting resin stuff, but it looks like the Big H here only stocks their decals.  :banghead:

Maybe have a look at Trumpeter's 1/72 Il-28/Harbin H-5 kits - LINK! They come with a a host of little bombs that might be just the thing. Although one of Trumpeter's earlier kits, it's pretty nice indeed. And it should be dirt cheap.

Or have a look at Eduard's Brassin 1/72 OFAB-100 bombs - LINK!

The Hobbycraft Tu-16 is a re-box of the Trumpeter kit (and cheaper), it has a similar sprue as that Il-28 ChernayaAkula
