So - my long awaited book on the Hawker P.1121 is nearing completion. Hoorah. :o

I've been thinking it would be really awesome to have part of a SIG table at, say, SMW Telford 2015, with P.1121 and related models on it, a stack of P.1121 books for sale, and maybe some P.1121 kits and decals  (and conversion sets?)

If anyone has a P.1121 kit in their stash, there are a number of potential builds - I could provide drawings for the following:

P.1103 11 different designs (most would need near-total scratchbuild)
Prototype P.1121
Production P.1121 Air-Air
Production P.1121 Strike
P.1121 Dorsal Intake
P.1121 side-by-side 2 seat Naval version
P.1121 tandem 2 seat Strike version for GOR.339
P.1121 (Stage B development)  tandem 2 seat Strike version for GOR.339
P.1122 Mach 3 steel wing
P.1123 2 seat bomber for GOR.339
P.1125 twin engine bomber for GOR.339
P.1129 for GOR.339
P.1129 Development (1) for GOR.339
P.1129 Development (2) for GOR.339

That should be a good read.

I've got the Maintrack P.1121 vacform filed away somewhere, but in the nature of vacforms it's not that easy to modify them all that much. An 'in service' Hurricane could be easily done however, it's just a paint job, and I think OGL has one in a 56 Sqdn. scheme, it used to be on display at the Midlands Air Museum.

**** Please note these will be Project Cancelled SIG so must be the real projects to complement the book *****

(Sorry for the official bit, but have to channel the creativity before some get carried away exploring their own concept)

Anyway, its a great idea Paul, and you can count me in with a standard Air to Air P1121 and the Naval Two Seater.

I might contemplate the 1125 or 1129 as have done them previously, but might be fun seeing where new drawings and possibly better selection of donor kits might help.

I have a Whirlybirds P1121 in the stash so I might give it a go as there might be enough lead time for me to complete the build in time :D

Nice idea, but one little snag. Sales from club/SIG stands are generally frowned upon at SMW.

Sounds interesting. An era I love but know pretty much nothing about. All of the drawings are to be in the book ? Or are you planning on posting some here ?

Are there any P.1121 kits or conversions available anyway?

AFAIK the Whirlybirds one is the only kid on the block, and it's a re-pop of the Maintrack kit. Like many Whirlybird kits it's DARNED expensive at £22.50 though!

Ok, well, how about a sign saying "book and kits available from vendor x/y/z" instead. It was more about cross-selling opportunity - everyone who buys the book buys a kit and a 2 seat conversion kit, etc.

There should be significant opportunity to enhance the OOB kit build for anyone into detailing - e.g. cockpit mockup photos, cutaways, photos of mockup and prototype etc. Also accurate drawings of Red Hebe, Red Top etc.

There will be lots of drawings in the book, there are also a lot of full page 1/96 scale 5 view (with cross sections) drawings by Barrie Hygate which may not all make it in, these could be posted to a purchasers-only section of www.secretprojects.co.uk as A4 PDFs for download.

Regarding kits, haven't explored this, but there are already 3D CGI models created for many designs, so there is the 3D printing route, perhaps for parts. Otherwise scratchbuilding may be the order of the day.

Even just a few OOB P.1121s with cool weapon fits and markings would be awesome - AS.37 Martel ARMs on an "Iron Hand/Wild Weasel" P.1121, or fighter version with Blue Dolphin (radar Red Top). I have official Hawker drawings of P.1103 with AIM-4 Falcon and AIM-7 Sparrow missiles, so a P.1121 similarly armed would not be outside the realms of probability.

I would think the powers that be would have no problem there ;D

I like the idea of a P1121 build, but not sure I can steel myself to have another go with a vac form at the moment lol

I just checked the Hannants web site and found this which is quite steep in price! It was also the only search return I had on there in 1/72 for P.1121

I am sure Thorvic could find more and/or cheaper outlets though  ;D

Id forgotten about the S&M kit. And you could well be right about our resident Kit bloodhounds abilities at sniffing out a cheaper source ;D

Quite steep? It's OUTRAGEOUS!  :o

I thought the Whirlybirds one was expensive but that's TWICE as much.

considering the size of the model and the amount of resin involved its at the "cheaper" end of the scale for resin kits.

I've got a vacuform one in the stash too, I can't remember if it's the Maintrack or the Whirlybird boxing/packaging though
If I'm not building models, I'm out riding my dirtbike
