They are rocket pods for thrust boost during climb and/or when manouvering to engage mythical Mach 2 Soviet bombers at 60,000ft.

But in whiff world there is no reason why they couldn't be extra fuel tanks...
After all once they've discovered that the high flying Soviet bombers are mythical,
They wouldn't be needing those rockets anymore :thumbsup:
And as everybody knows British Fighters are notoriously short legged :rolleyes:
So it might make a lot of sense to use the space freed up by loosing the rockets for more fuel ;D
And yes I have voted for the Hawker P.1103; you see I had my head turned by the 'Neville Duke speed record'
