IIRC I filled in the gap because 1) I decided the rear of the float was too fat and 2) I wasn't confident I could make 2 wing mounted floats that were the same.
Flipping the engines was Army of One's idea and worked excellently giving the pilot and observer a better downwards oblique view as well as lifting the engines up out of the spray
