My stash just grew again (2015)

I left with another Italian Trimotor - this time a 1/72 Supermodel Savoia Marchetti SM81 Pipistrello.

Interesting. I have an Italeri boxing which says Updated New Tooling. If is the same kit then they have cleaned it up a lot. Surprised me how big it is.

Never been quite sure what to do with it  Either a real world build or as part of my alternative Austro-Hungary scenario.

Italeri list it as current on their website and the sprues are identical to those in my Supermodel box so they don't appear to have added or removed anything for the "retro" issue.  The decal sheet is more comprehensive in the Italeri boxing.
There is a very attractive cream/red scheme on the Supermodel box art ("rising sun" wings) which I might corrupt into something whiffy.

The attraction for me of these Italian bombers is that they were all designed to double as cargo aircraft and so have fuselages large enough to accommodate passengers (try doing that on a Do 17) meaning they are ideal for conversion to post war civil use.
My LHS has an Italeri SM 82 Marsupiale on the shelf.  The box is trashed but they won't reduce it so I won't buy it (yet).

I went to collect a model from Ian the Kiwi Herder, he having kindly airbrushed it for me, and came home with one each Italeri single- and two-seat 1/72 Jaguars!

The Italeri boxing of the SM81 I have is of a camouflaged aircraft dropping A.P. bombs ? whilst being attacked by a Hurricane. 6 markings options all of which look very attractive. Also have the SM82 which is a very nice kit in the box 

Anyway the new tool Airfix Wildcat arrived this morning from the Big H and it looks superb. Some will say the panel lines and rivet detail are possibly to deep, but for brush painting they are ideal as they will "cover up" nicely whilst still being just visable  I'll be building her with one wing folded and the other stretched to show off the nice wing fold detail. the most complex pat of the build would appear to be the front of the fuselage with the cockpit//undercarriage assembly. Case of follow the instructions I think

As mentioned earlier there is a glut of Star Wars toys returning to the store shelves. Cheap Chinese crap yes, but still fun to play with  This set was 12 bucks. I'm guessing them to be roughly 200 scale. Would make a neat dio with a few sets !

Yeap for some reason they haven't really highlighted the Force Awakens branding you would have expected.

That the T-70 X-wing updated version with the single wing S-foil where the foward half tilts down and the rear half tilts up to create the X-wing profile. Just a pity Revell use box scales and focus on the toy aspect, where as the Bandai versions are standard scales, but due to draconian licencing are only available for the far east market (Including the on-line & ebay outlets that used to sell them globally !!)

Ah yes, I can see the fore/aft split wings now.
Y Wings are more my cup of tea.

Maybe Disney haven't forced the manufacturers to splash The Force Awakens all over them because they know they can re-issue them in TFA boxes closer to the release date and get the collectors to buy them all over again?

Am I alone in thinking The Mouse is going to strip the guts out of this franchise leaving nothing but a desiccated husk viewed with contempt by once keen fans?

Airfix Dinah.  Ancient kit - but better than I remembered - originally for whiffing but one of the colour schemes convinced me that it will be a real world build.

Although whiffery's siren song may yet win out.
