* In truth I never go to shows / gatherings / meets and yes I know I miss out. All stems from a confrontation with a JMN back in the 1990's. Put me off for life.

I didn't hear a single JMN comment all weekend and I didn't get told about any secondhand either. I'd say around 50% of the branch/SIG tables had at least one Whiff on them and one of them (Farnborough) was ALL what if. The climate's changed, even in the last 6+ years since I've been back into modelling.

Last time I heard one was that time a couple of years ago at Cosford when we were under the 188 as somebody noticed the Kit's PR-19 and commented "What a way to ruin a good kit" had us lot in stiches as its one of the most iconic Whif builds and had been taken for real by some. Kit's face was a picture when we told him  .

We have a slightly different take on Project Cancelled as many now recognise the types form the various books by Tony Chris etc. and take great pleasure in telling their companions about the types (and they quite often get the details right too  ). So we end up quite often either explaining what the project was, or how we built it and then directing them off to look up the various books or SecretProjects forum for more reference material

Last time I heard one was at Crewe three (?) years ago. I was alone on the stand at the end of the day (everybody else was off after last-minute bargains) and some guy came up muttering and mumbling about everything on the stand and then eventually pointed to a VG Lightning and exploded "and that's just completely ridiculous!" When I told him it was real project, his face was a picture...

Right, time for this year's announcement of my haul.  

However, before I go any further, whilst it may seem like I have lots of disposable income, it's taken a year to save for Telford by the expedient of declaring anything other than a note or a pound coin unspendable and thus must go in the jar.  Lottery winnings, monies found in the street or won in the casino (me mate's a gambler and I go to look after him, with the occasional flutter).  All of which made up for a more than decent pot once the expenses were cleared.  Indeed, so much money was there that I'd achieved the target - expenses plus X spending money - and have next years' expenses plus the start of next years spending money.

I find that this way of saving means that you hardly notice it in your wallet and can thus spend with a clear conscience!

So, what did I trawl during my strip mining?

Spitfires - a total of 60 plan items plus some conversion and detail bits.  It was a tale of highs and lows.  One box felt heavy and had two kits in.  Another which I checked earlier had half a kit plus an La 5 fuselage.  Very annoyed at that!

On reflection, I may well have gone too far, but there were some things I regret not getting, such as Mel Bromley's 144th Shorts Shetland flying boat.  Then again, it's not my scale.  Antics had a box of starter set Airfix Spitfire Ia kits for £4 each.  Worth it for the paints alone.  However, by that stage, I really didn't want to spend any more money.


Now, I've just got to find space to store them!

Just had a good look at the two-Seasprites-in-one-box and was confused that the two bags of parts (all off the sprues) seemed different. It turns out that one of them is an SH-2F as per the box and the other is the rare YSH-2E version with a big nose radar of which only two were made. As far as I know, only Fujimi have kitted the latter.

That radar nose could be transplanted onto all sorts of things: a Dornier Do.28 was the first thing that sprang to mind....

Haha! For those who don't know Au 16e Escadron is actually a Belgian company who specialized in Limited Run injection kits during the 1990s, http://www.16escadron.eu/gb/ . This Hunting Percival Pembroke comes with parts and decals for British, German or Belgian aircraft. The clear parts are vacform and overall the fit looks pretty good.
I have a daft idea for an African (South Africa, Rhodesia, Kenya, Biafra?) light gunship with a pair of GPMGS out of the underwing windows and a mortar cannon hanging out of the back door   

Lee is correct as he did me a huge favour at the kitswap by paying for my measly 3 kits along with his big haul, allowing me to go off round the show. The T-45 was only £3 and I had a nice chat with Rob about how inaccurate it is for a naval Hawk.

I also forgot about the KP Avia C-2, a 1940s light trainer originally designed as the Arado Ar 96. 400 of these were built post-1945 in Czechoslovakia and others were built in France till 1958, seeing action in Algeria with bombs, rockets and guns.

Not that daft: there was a DH Dove flying as a gunship in Biafra with a .50 cal Browning, complete with tripod, lashed into the doorway with rope...

Nice haul - there were a lot of very cheap Hasegawa Me 262s floating around. 

Nick, the KP Avia C2 is specific to post war Czech aircraft.  I don't think it's backdateable.  Still, it's a nice kit as it is.  Many fond memories of that and other KP kits of post war Czech Luftwaffe types.
