When you mentioned the FD2 and VTOL i just knew you would love this one.

Certainly makes for an interesting Whiff model as would have period photos to prove its genuine yet still a whiff

Yep - be good for conflusticating JMNs on the stand wouldn't it?   Thanks again!

Looking at it from a design POV it's pretty good, but I can see three credibility objections:

1. I don't see how the air gets from the intakes to the cruise engine without making an impossibly tight turn either in front of the lift engines or behind them. They should probably have extended the intakes further forwards and claimed the duct ran between the lift engines.

2. There doesn't seem to be a good reason for the single-track undercarriage, other than "well the Kestrel has it". Wing-mounted gear wouldn't be excessively long.

3. The needle nose is clearly based on the FD.2 but would have to be widened for a radar and/or avionics. The nose is the area where the Mirage III is dimensionally most different to the FD.2.

It would certainly make an interesting subject to model Geoff, but my aversion to all these projects that have multiply engines just for VTOL and then haul around the dead weight for 99% of the time, generally get assigned to my ""delete this idea"" pile

Couldn't agree more with the criticism and of course, none of these ideas ever entered service for exactly that reason. However since many were built as prototypes, it's certainly credible to model as a whiff alternative to the Mirage IIIV. It's almost surprising that no British project of this ilk ever cut metal as Rolls-Royce were hostile to the (Bristol-engined) Harrier concept and pushed the lift+cruise configuration hard, probably because the prospect of selling nine RR engines per plane had little pound-signs flicking up in their eyes with a "kerchiiiiing" sound.....

Just out of interest, I checked up on the serial.  In real life it belonged to a Shelduck drone.
I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. You see, my mule don't like people laughin'. He gets the crazy idea you're laughin' at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Back from the Ballarat NNL.  There's nothing quite like a car focussed model show for buying non-car kits cheaply.

I got, in 1/72 for very little cash the following;
Frogspawn GAL Hotspur glider - just begging for a Porco Rosso style strut mounted engine.
Airfix Viggen - Started (fuselage glue bombed) with no clear parts but decals and weapons are there and it's good for parts.
Airfix Do 217E/Me 328 Mistel - No ideas for this but the Messerschmitt is a nice shape (although it's ex PM and is by all accounts horrible) and I can't have too many old school Airfix (yay rivets!).
Airfix RAF Air Sea Rescue Launch - Could be just the thing for civilianising as a fast cabin cruiser or scaleoramaing to a 1/25 open class race boat with an Allison V1710.

Fred

- Can't be bothered to do the proper research and get it right.

Another ill conceived, lazily thought out, crudely executed and badly painted piece of half arsed what-if modelling muppetry from zenrat industries.

Had the same experience at the Sutton show last year. It's a very small show which is 90% armour/figures show and some of the aviation bargains were  Will be going this year

Nick.......do you have a link or can you point me in the right direction for a few of these kits please......?  The Hawk 200 that is......

I wish I did. This was about 10 years ago and they are now the same as rocking horse turds. I really want some Italeri T-45 Goshawks but they are even harder to find.

Two more Ginas: one Revell G-91R in Portuguese Tiger Meet colors, and another Matchbox G-91Y, the latter at a really reasonable price.

Howard of Effingham

That sounds really interesting Nils. Do you paint them or let them get that Aluminium Oxide colour ?

i would give them a layer of Revell 99 (Aluminuim) paint, just for the better effect

Foolishly bought the PM Models F-16 (http://www.kitreview.com/reviews/f16pmreviewbg_1.htm) because it was cheap.
Opened it, immediately regretted the purchase and decided the only solution is to do something silly with it. Stay tuned.....  ;)

How do you 'accidently' win an auction?  ;D
